The enable streaming unchecks whenever the Pogoplug reboots for any reason including power going out and being restored. I have suggested that they keep the enable streaming opion between reboots. However, I haven't noticed the other problems you experienced and the system works great for me. I am watching a movie streaming to my iPad as week speak. Gotta love it.
I stream files from my PogoPlug to my PS3. It works pretty well except that every couple of days it stops work. It's nearly always because in media settings, the "enable" box for my drive has magically become unchecked.
I recommended Pogoplug to a friend for the same reason. He's had it for a week and his "enable" box has unchecked itself multiple times already.
What gives?
How are you streaming to your iPad? I can never get the videos to play when I access my.pogoplug.com from the iPad.
I'm sure hes using the pogoplug app for the iphone on his Ipad and not the website, speaking of is cloud going to make a dedicated Ipad app?
If you use it that way, do you have to allow the pogoplug to re-transcode your videos? I tried that once and the quality was terrible on my PS3 - which is my primary use case. I'd love it if I could watch them on the PS3 and on the iPad (when the thing works!)
The pogoplug iPhone app does work on the iPad but you don't get the benefit of the fullscreen even in 2x view. The web based interface works better for video from the pogoplug on the iPad. I was fortunate enough to start my video collection when I got the pogoplug so I put everything in h.264 which streams well to xbox and iPad. I have the pogoplug transcoding turned off completely in the settings.
I need to find the right settings to use (in Handbrake, I hope) that would allow PS3 and iPad viewing. I think that's going to be hard to do. I already have two copies of all my videos - one set that's avi for my PS3, another set that are mp4 and downsized to work on my iPod classic. There's got to be a better way.
I use Handbrake's "High Profile" preset and make sure that Anamorphic on the Picture tab is set to Loose. Then I do a preview to make sure the automatic cropping got rid of any black bars and tweak them and then encode. DVDs usually end up in the 700-900MB range with a few longer movies topping out at 1.2GB. They look and work great on the xbox360 and the ipad.
I'll give that a try, thanks!
Oh, and to get this thread back on topic, consider it a bug report (not a feature request) that the "enabled" checkbox resets when the Pogoplug is rebooted. That's just broken behavior that needs to be corrected.
@Pupator - it's been like that since I've used it too - anytime I have to reboot I have to recheck that box

And now this morning the Pogoplug doesn't recognize either of the drives plugged in. Rebooted, unplugged and re-plugged in the drives - still no go.
This is not the most stable thing I've ever owned.
