I've recently started to see the same thing in norton's; I have Mcafee's at work, and whenever I go to my.popoplug.com, I dont get that warning at all. might be something in norton's.
Whenever I browse to my.pogoplug.com I receive a warning from Norton's Site Saftey that the site is unsafe and a threat.
It reports the threat as:
Threat Report
Total threats found: 1
| Viruses (what's this?) Threats found: 1
|
Any ideas as to why and how we can remedy this?
Question - are both of you typing in "my.pogoplug.com" specifically? Norton seems to be identifying it as "service.pogoplug.com" which does link you to the service, but isn't the link one would normally use.
I didn't know that there was an other log-in site, I was only aware of my.pogoplug.com.
Norton Internet Security 2010 with the latest updates. About shows it as: Version 17.6.0.32
Thanks folks - it appears that some shares from some users are flagging Norton's auto-detect for a warning. We are looking into it now and working on a solution.
Ok folks - we were able to get Norton to review the site and list us as save - thanks for bringing this to our attention!
My Norton 360 ver4.0 shows a blocking warning for pogo inside the home network telling: HTTP Suspicious executable image download
Why?
McAfee Web Gateway (Webwasher) seems to also detect my.pogoplug.com as a threat.
@stb - that image is likely to be on one of your attached hard drives - does Norton tell you which file it's talking about?
@GreenTapir - likely to be a similar issue - as your files appear to be on the website, it's likely that McAfee is tagging them as a threat. Does it give you a list of the threats on my.pogoplug.com?
Unlike Norton's SafeWeb, there doesn't appear to be an easy way to see what you're seeing. I've tried a couple of McAfee's diagnostic tools:
http://www.securecomputing.com/dhc/dhcsfw.cfm?domain=my.pogoplug.com&pid=
http://www.trustedsource.org/query/my.pogoplug.com
both show my.pogoplug.com as minimal risk, which is their lowest level of alert.
McAfee Webwasher tags the whole site as a threat. I do not even get the loggon screen so it can not be related to the individual files.
I looked at the threat details and it says "P2P/File Sharing". I guess if the network is configured to block anything that McAfee consideres filesharing, there is not much you can do.
@GreenTapir - the only thing I can think of is potentially writing into McAfee to ask them why they flagged the site - if there's something we can do to unflag it we'll look into it.
I am now getting a "site unsafe" message when I go to my.pogoplug.com. I am using Norton 360 2010 with latest updates.
It appears to be a similar problem to the one experienced earlier, judging by the above comments.
Hope this can be resolved quickly.
This is the same issue as earlier - Norton has flagged a users' share as containing unsafe content. I have asked them to review their decision and also initiated higher level contacts with Norton to see if there's some way to make their bots smart enough to understand that shared files from someone's hard drive are not actually on the site.
Thank you for such a quick reply. I now feel a lot better about using the product - which is great, btw.
Then the shared items can be seen by anyone? May be the content on the indivudual pogos also?
@stb - you can set shares to be accessible by anyone using either the public URL option, an RSS feed, or by posting them to a social networking site (FB, Twitter, or MySpace) - those URLs would be crawlable by a bot and flaggable by Norton.
If you choose to share only to a set of email address, those files are NOT accessible to anyone but the people to whom you've shared.
Mr. Jon QA.. Thank you for the quick answer. Although I have no doubt about the security of the product I had to ask...
You did a great device.. and I bought it from Turkey firstly delivering to American address then to Turkey as it is not available for now..
@stb - I would have asked too! Security is an issue that we take seriously. We will always strive to offer the best balance of ease of use and secure access, with the most transparent communication about our policies. Our goal is to make you 100% comfortable using your Pogoplug for all your content, and we will always be working to that end.
I've been using my Pogoplug on a Win 7 laptop for the past 5 months successfully. This week the Pogoplug software is unable to connect to my drives. Note that I also have a Mac OS X which is also connected wirelessly with no problems.
I get the following ERROR "There appears to be a problem with your network. Please check your network connection and click the Connect button to try again."
The Pogoplug tech (AdamC) suggested that I remove my anti-virus protection and firewall. I use McAfee and until this week I've had no problems. I'm concerned about this answer because removing my anti-virus isn't an option.
