I started running into the same issue today. The drive wouldn't even show up on any of my three computers. I had to go to the website and manually try to reload the drive a few times until it woke up. I put an RMA request into the place I bought it from, but their return policy states they don't take back any computer hardware. Yay!!! Guess I am stuck...I will call them tomorrow and plead my case.
Whenever I bring my desktop out of sleep or hibernate the Pogoplug Drive app does note find any of the attached drives until I do a manual reload. This makes it impossible to have unattended scheduled backups if the computer isn't guaranteed to be turned on. FYI, I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. Waiting minutes or even hours doesn't help either - the app only reconnects to the drives when I manually reload (or login/logout/reboot). What gives?
I have the same problem, and it's a nuisance, and potentially a problem. Is there an option or a command line parameter that will bypass the requirement to reload? Computers do go to sleep in this "green" age, and PogoPlug should be able to handle user needs in this environment.
Does anyone know of a solution here?
Me too... What's this? My computer is set to turn on at midnight for backups from hibernate and it just doesn't work. never had this issue before with network drive manager.PLease fix this because this is really not helping us who are relying on autoback-ups
I have the same problem on four diff machines, two running Win XP Pro SP3 and two running Win 7 Home Prem. Problem has been constant since day one over at least two firmware / driver versions. I have two WD My Book Mirror Edition, 2 TB / 1 TB Mirrored, USB 2.0 attached. It does limit the usefulness of the Pogoplug. I doubt we are the only ones with the problem and would love to hear from the developers on the subject.
As these reports of the problem continue to increase, I'm surprised that we have not had a post from a PogoPlug team member. We have to assume they're aware of the problem; shouldn't they want to comment on what they are doing about it? Or, at least, give us soothing words to tell us they are looking into it.
Same here, both on Win 7, Vista and XP. I have to press reload all the time and in addition quite often I have to put in the username and passwort again
I also have to do this, which is a complete pain. Fairly new to pogoplug and am very suprised at the lack of communication regarding this. I had always heard the pogoplug team was very responsive and quick to at least acknowledge issues... now that I'm a pogo member, I guess I'm seeing the truth?
Yup this is annoying. And also, when I click 'remember me' on my desktop client, I would expect it to remember me and mount my drive for a long time, but it forgets after what, 6 days?
I have this same problem on my Windows 7 Machine. Sure wish we'd get some kind of official response!

On two of my three machines, the Drive App seems to work fine (one 32 bit and one 64 bit machine). On the third one, a 64 bit laptop, the drive app just goes away after a while. I have reloaded the application seven or eight times. Sometimes re-booting will fix it, other times right-clicking the drive icon in the tray and re-loading fixes everything. Sometimes I have to delete and re-install the app.
We are having the same problem with the desktop application. Occasionally I'll have problems when starting up as well. The problem seems to be that the Pogoplug software loads and is looking for the internet/LAN but the network isn't ready yet. This happens much of the time when we are connecting via wireless. When that happens I need to manually click to get the Pogoplug drive to reload.
Pogoplug folk, could you please update the desktop software so that it automatically attempts to reconnect/reload/refresh after one minute or so. I think that is all it would take to fix this problem.
Thanks
@MN Dan
I strongly support the idea. My sister is using an old laptop, where WiFi has to be turned on manually everytime, by pressing a button. So everytime she startup the computer the Pogoplug software will complain. That sucks!

Ok... so the response I've gotten from support is that this is a known issue. Until they put a complete fix in, they've added the "Reload" option to the quick-launch bar. Right click on the small pogoplug icon on your quick launch and select the "Reload" option. This will restore the drives.
My observations indicate that this is a (External) Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Problem. SimpleTech and Buffalo seem to be the biggest offenders. Let me give some background.
I had a SimpleTech HDD connected via USB to my PC that *never* sleeps. The USB HDD does in fact go into sleep mode and plenty of reviews on CNET on these products say that this is a feature.
Nevertheless, when connected to my PC the HDD was slow to return; so slow that backups to the USB HDD failed routinely. I often just recycled the power on the USB HDD.
In an attempt to solve this problem, I disconnected the SimpleTech from my PC, plug the SimpleTech USB HDD into Pogoplug, and everything seemed fine until a long weekend while I was away. Then the problem was as others here have described. That is, the PogoPlug drive is unreachable until I power off and on both SimpleTech and Pogoplug.
Currently looking at setting up an AT job on a PC that I leave on continually. The job would force IO on the SimpleTech HDD (perform a simple Directory scan, echo the time to a file, so I can see when thing stopped working, etc...)
Good Luck Folks!

Just as a follow up to Dav.IT - I think you're right. I purchased a Freeagent Go drive and added it to the Freeagent Dockstar and now all drives are visible after sleep. The Go drive seems to have fixed the problem.

I'd like to add to the list of people pleading for a solution.
However, it seems there may be two separate issues here. The problem I'm experiencing seems isolated to the pogoplug drive app running on a PC. After that PC comes back from standby or hibernate, I have to right click on the pogoplug icon and do a reload. No action is required on the Pogoplug itself or the drives connected to it. And other PC's that haven't been asleep continue to use the pogoplug just fine.
It seems the other issue is related to specific models of USB drives, where the drive goes to sleep and requires corrective action on the pogoplug (via the web interface) -- but like I said, I haven't run into this issue.
Wow... original poster here - shortly after posting this thread I discussed the issue with tech support. At the time they recommended that if this was a deal breaker they would help me pursue a return. With no promise of a resolution and since the product wasn't useful to me without the ability to reconnect automatically for backup purposes when my computer woke from sleep I decided to return the product. I may consider repurchasing at some point down the road if things like this are resolved... looks like that's not the case yet. ;)
Hey there.
You might want to simply run a BAT or CMD file that simply does a Dir [pogoplug.drive.letter] every hour or two or three.
Please remember that the problem occurs because of a power saving *feature* of the Hard Drive. So, any HDD with this *feature* would have problems..
Either way, good luck and please give a post if you decide on another solution.
Thank You.

Very interesting. I am not sure how the first condition could occur, but I believe you.
I noticed that prior to PogoPlug, when the HDD I had was plugged directly into a PC, I had the same problem, i.e. the HDD was so low to respond that the PC did not recognize that the drive was formatted or that the HDD existed.
In the next few weeks I intend to purchase another HDD that does not Power Save or sleep and see if the problem persists.
Please keep us posted.

Hello Pogoplug Team?!
Can anyone of you reply to this issue? It's really annoying...
So the problem still that I have to press reload everytime I return from hybernate modus in order to make Pogoplug work. In addition, if there is no inet connection, pogoplug will complain all the time asking to reconnect and not just wait till the connection is available again...
I could also just open a ticket..., I could.
Chris
I have not observed the behavior when there is a lost internet connection. My understanding is that an internet connection is needed primarily for Authentication. Where does the complaining take place, or how do you see this?
The folks at PogoPlug are very responsive and courteous. So, if this complaining during a lost internet connection is annoying, I would open a ticket. My advice is the same for the reload.
Good Luck and Keep us Posted.
