This is a little tip for Mac users who are new to Pogoplug, new to Mac OS, or both.  (Longtime Pogoplug users or Mac Terminal nerds, this process may be familiar to you, so feel free to ignore :)

If, for some reason, you are experiencing trouble with your thumbnails, previews, or data on your drive, deleting the ".cedata" file on the Pogoplug connected drive can help.  It allows the Pogoplug to "start fresh" when scanning your media.

For example, I accidentally duplicated my Music folder within my Music folder on my Pogoplug, meaning I had two copies of every song I had.  I then deleted the second folder, but the Pogoplug had trouble accessing the media that remained.

Deleting the .cedata folder on my drive helped immensely.  Here's the quick way to do it.  First, eject your drive in the My.Pogoplug interface and disconnect from the Pogoplug.

Step two involves the Mac Terminal.  Go into Applications => Utilities and launch Terminal.

Type in this command and press enter:

defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles Yes

Nothing will happen right away.  Next, go to the Apple Menu, click "Force Quit," then Finder, then Relaunch Finder.

Now, connect your Pogoplug drive to a regular USB port.  You will see the hidden .cedata folder on the drive when you otherwise would not.  Delete it (and empty the Trash if necessary) then reconnect to your Pogoplug.

Note that this change will stick and you will now always see hidden files.  To switch it back, run the same command only replacing "Yes" with "No," and the OS X Finder will no longer reveal the hidden files.

One way or another, this is a great, simple troubleshooting step if you are having issues.

Nice tip.
Couple of things I have found is that after deleting the .cedata folder if you go to My.Pogoplug Media settings and manually make it perform a rescan it will rebuild everything quickly.

Also there is a file called .ceid you may see in the root folder. This file contains the info on your media settings, your Drive's name and other things like what you have shared via Twitter or other sharing options.
Don't delete this unless you want to lose all your settings and shares.

@bidmead - That does remove a few steps from the process :) I use rm -rf (a dangerous command) to manually empty the Trash. Thanks for sharing another way to do it!

OK I deleted my .cedata folder on my pp drive now when I hooked it back up to pp and try to view files in the web interface> movies, music, photos... etc it says I don't have any I need to upload some, they are all still there I can see them on the desktop version how can I make it see and reindex them with the new previews, I sure don't want to wait 2 days for it to delete and recopy these files to the drive its over 300GB worth of files.

TIA

I have deleted the .cedata folder and my problem with disappearing files seems solved. ( I am still uploading and testing)

But I still can not view all files. If a file is larger than about 1mb it won't preview.

Update:
none of my problems is solved......it looked promissing but after trying uploading a lot of files, I see other files disappear.....

Anyone a solution for disapearing files when uploading other files?
And maybe also for previewing files larger then about 1mb?

Somehow the problem is solved by using Google Chrome.....strange, but when I use Firefox file disappear and with Google Chrome all goes well.
It took a lot of patience to try where what problem was.
Simple solution, although the browser should not make the difference, Pogo mentions all the browsers in the specs.

It does not matter if you are using OS-X or Windows.  Deleting the cedata file works to clear up issues with a drive.
