I have opened a ticket with Seagate concerning HD spin down.

According to them there is no way to configure the Dockstar to spin down hard drives after a set time.
They though said that the unit should manage hard drives' spin-off time automatically; sounds very fishy, especially because they didn't have an answer to my next question: "after how many minutes should I expect my HD to spin off?"

I think the unit does not power down hard drives at all.
probably some entries in the .ceid file may do that but I haven't found any literature on the net.

Will post a solution if found.

Unfortunately no joy.

I have though noted that it depends on the hard drives you plug into it.
I have plugged a self-powered 3.5" 400Gb maxtor and it won't spin off.
A 320Gb 2.5" from Western digital spins off after a while
A 500Gb 2.5" from Western digital as well doesn't, go understand why!

But the funniest thign is that my old 250Gb SEAGATE hard drive doesn't either so the unit doesn't work properly even with Seagate drives!

Anyway none of my drives has broken down yet, let's hope they last.
