I watched a review on the PogoPlug and was intrigued enough to buy one. I'm disappointed to learn, however, that you cannot address the drive directly (via the an assigned drive letter) without using the desktop client. I can appreciate the simplicity of the device but really do not like having lots of apps running in my taskbar. Is it possible, perhaps, to install the client as a service?

Alternatively they could include Samba - if you like that idea, go to this thread and voice your support.

Or, you could go to this thread and ask them to improve third part support

@DanVM - the drive application wouldn't run in your taskbar - once you've installed it and gotten it set up you can close the initial window (the Preferences Pane) and the application will live in your systray. The drives will just show up in windows explorer as tho they were attached drives.

Hope that helps!
