Well it depends. The box that connects to your laptop, is it the Cable modem?

if it is the Cable Modem that Time Warner supplied you, you will need a router
A router is another box you would connect directly to the Cable Modem and from this new Router box you would connect (either with a cable or with just plain WiFi wireless) your laptop. This Router is where the PogoPlug would connect to.

So if I understand you. Box connected to laptop is the Cable Modem that Time warner gave you. If that is true, you need to buy a router and then connect the pogoplug to that.
