When using the pogoplug iPhone app, I noticed that my iPhone .mov files and h264 video files are only streaming for 10 seconds.  I thought the 10 second preview was for video files that needed to be transcoded (divx, xvid, mpeg, etc).  Do my iPhone movies and h264 movies need to be transcoded? What format/settings should I use on my video transcoder (handbrake) so they won't need to be transcoded by the pogoplug?

Easiest way to do this is to go to the Media Settings page of my.pogoplug.com, then click on the settings link next to the name of your Pogoplug under the heading "Your Pogoplug creates previews of pictures, movies and music from the files on your hard drive to make sure that you can view and share them across all web browsers and mobile devices."

This will bring up the Media Processing Options dialog with three choices
Allow Pogoplug to optimize videos for playback:
Allow Pogoplug to process media meta-data:
Allow Pogoplug to generate thumbnails:

Set Allow Pogoplug to optimize videos for playback: to "Never", and the device will play your original video.

Hope that helps!

Thanks, I tried setting the option to Never, but it was still loading the 10sec preview (I suppose it was picking up the previously cached previews). I then deleted all the videos from the drive, and then copied them back to a different directory name. It appears to be working now.

Really? So we have to do that each time the Pogo decides it's not gonna play nice? Really? REALLY? I still can't get the bloody thing to play more than 10 seconds even with files that were handbrakes Universal and play just fine on all my iPods. If I turn on sharing for the XBox, I can even serve 'em up there, but not on my iPod.

I suspect the previews are cached and need to be cleared before the 'Never' option is enabled. Even if the 'Never' option is enabled, it looks like it's stilling picking up the previews.

If the files are deleted, then I suspect the cache would be cleared (I'm just guessing). Moving the files to a different directory may have the same effect. IIRC there's a way to clear the cache if you SSH in to the device.

The thing you need to delete to clear them videos is a hidden folder called .cedata.
1) Go to Media Settings and click the settings link next to the name of your Pogoplug bringing up the Media Processing Options dialog, and set transcode to never.

2) Safely eject your drive, plug it into your CPU, and delete the .cedata folder

3) Plug your drive back into your Pogoplug. Your iPod friendly videos should play just fine assuming you have the bandwidth - hope that helps!
