I'm completely new to pogoplug; however, I really love the concept. So much so that I just purchased one, but have yet to set it up. The Active Copy feature was what pushed me over the edge, especially, the offsite backup to another pogoplug. The1 piece that seems to be missing is the linking of 2 machines to a pogoplug, such that Active Copy would copy the files from Computer1 to the pogoplug which would then, by way of a client app maybe update Computer2.

This seems to be the last thing needed for me to be able to remove my dependence on DropBox. Is the above mentioned functionality available? Could it be added in the future? Or is it outside of the scope and purpose of pogoplug?

Again I'm new, and though I searched the forums, I might have missed a post regarding this, if so I apologize.

Ok, so my pogoplug came in and I've been toying around with it this evening and I think I solved my problem. Here is the setup:

MacBook #1 (mine)
MacBook #2 (wife's)

Setup Active Sync on MacBook_1 Pictures Directory to PogoPlug
Setup Active Sync on MacBook_2 Pictures Directory to PogoPlug
Setup Active Sync on PogoPlug MacBook_1->Pictures to MacBook_2->Pictures

Early testing seems to give me the functionality I'm looking for - now time to try it with the full up iPhoto Library.

thanks

Hi Chris,

It's not that I don't Love DropBox. I agree 100% it is a great product/service. It is easy to setup/use and I never have to think about it. It provides me the 2 features I desire: offsite backup and synchronization.

With that said my media collection is quickly growing to a size (>100GB) that DropBox can't support, and even if it could, I'm not sure my wallet could support. I realize they are using Amazon S3 behind the scenes and as such that is the main cost driver.

I just see 2 PogoPlugs (priced very reasonably I might add) and a couple 1TB hard drives as a more economical solution for my needs. I think if I can find a change detecting file synchronization utility to fill in the gaps that currently exist with a PogoPlug-based solution that i could have a long term paid up front solution.
