Thanks a lot for the support. :)
I sent the email below to support. They pointed to this forum as the appropriate place to post suggestions, hence this post. I intend this thread to be a gauge of support for the general direction of Pogoplug towards open source in general and more specifically support of third party enhancements to their plug. I mentioned PlugApps mostly because they are the ones I was aware of, but I really don't care who the third parties are, the more the merrier. I mentioned specific functions I'd like to see but would prefer they be discussed in individual threads. This is specifically for asking Pogoplug to open up and support, if not embrace, third party development.
Please, no pissing contest.
I recently purchases a Pogoplug and am quite happy with it so far. It lacks, however, additional functionality that I was hoping to get from PlugApps. Specifically Samba, web server and Squeezebox applications. Please consider either working with the PlugApps team or providing similar functionality yourselves for your customers.
This technology is still very young and the players, like yourselves, are jostling for position in the market. I think those who can demonstrate value and service to their customers will flourish, others will fail. I don't want to have picked a product without longevity. Please consider my request and other ways to add value and differentiate yourself from the competition.
