Samba is still available from Openpogo:

and here:

If you are using the pink Pogoplug V2 then Openpogo is best installed on a USB drive as here:
http://www.pogoplugged.com/article/12101/How-to-Install-or-remove-OpenPogo-on...
but it would be better as native Pogoplug functionality.
Now that PlugApps has stopped supporting Pogoplug, how about adding Samba support.
Blogging here: http://netlowdown.com/blogs/
I too would like to see this feature. PlugApps stopped working properly on my v2 after the recent Pogoplug update, so I am back to needing a solution for Samba as well for reliable LAN access.

I'd like to see this as well. Planning on using my Pogo as an NAS to save recorded TV/movies from Windows Media Center. Would like to map the drive permanently and give WMC a stable location (i.e., one that won't change when the PC awakes from sleep/hibernation) to save media to...
Gotta admit that integrated Samba functionality makes a lot of sense. I'd use it.
I'll add my voice for adding integrated Samba support. I've had a Seagate Dockstar and it has Samba. For setting up and mapping drives in a purely local setting, Samba is great. I mapped my drives using the "net use" command allowing me to define what drive letters to use. The Pogoplug would be greatly enhanced if the ability to do this were built-in without having to resort to other means to add it. If the Dockstar can do this why not Pogoplug?
Another vote. As well as my pogoplug, I have a dockstar that I am using the undocumented SAMBA access to instead of the pogoplug software, but it would be very nice to have samba access to my pogoplug. I find the pogoplug client software very temperamental.
Thanks
What exactly is samba support?
I am looking for a way to have a password protected network share - thought the GoFlexNet I purchased was going to be a network device... Never thought it would be a filesharing toy.
Samba is a file server daemon (server program) that emulates the Microsoft file server/file sharing environment. Whether or not it provides user/password protections depends a lot on how it is implemented.
Real file server access would be great. I am having TONS of problems transferring items to the device though windows 7 64 app. Hangs on creating folders for 5 minutes - literally! also hangs on "discovering items" on copying 200 small files over to the device...
So far my GoFlexNet Pogoplug device is completely unusable... I think I wasted my money purchasing 2 1tb drivess and the pogoplug GoFlex Net device... All in all about $400...
Samba (and AFP?) support for local access makes a lot of sense, particularly for desktop computers on the same network as the Pogoplug. This would mean I could turn on the secure access for remote access and get best possible speed on the local network without having to go through encryption/decryption. Having the app on a laptop, so that wherever you are the drives are the same and "just work" is really useful though!
Mr. Moderator,
Why is my comment deleted?
I don' even remember what I posted.
Did I say anything inappropriate or
did I say anything to embarass anyone?
If this is an open forum, I object to this.

Definite vote here for samba access, my windows media center machine is not liking the pogo virtual drive at all...
I vote for Samba
Yes, yes and a thousand yes's
I am fed up with the Windows Drive Access.
When I write to the drive in Windows,
it will corrupt the Ceid files and
I have to connect it back to the computer
as a local drive and erase ceid folder
and i am tired of doing this.
Granted , it does not happen always , but
enough for Pogoplug team to give us Samba
Please !!!

Pogoplug drive app uses a optimized protocol which is *WAY* faster than samba access can be. Use the pogoplug drive app whenever you can...
There are some cases where it is impossible to install the app:
- a guest machine
- accessing files from a game console like Wii or X-Box.
- accessing media from a media player box like the WD live media player, iomega screen play or similar.
- accessing files from a mobile phone etc.
There are tons of devices that can read files from samba shares... please provide READ ONLY access from samba, if nothing else...
Hmm, it had Samba installed while I was using OpenPogo and after tuning it a little bit it was a little bit faster than the Drive App.
If the guys don't want to add Samba they should at least update the Windows drive app, it's a complete mess. It forgets my password, I have to reload all the time, it annoys me with stupid error messages while I'm offline. Does CloudEngines actually use their own stuff.
Samba has the advantage of being able to do sector-based file access, which can be very important if you're handling larger files, like a database or TrueCrypt file masquerading as a network drive.
I think the PogoPlug drive app is file based? That would make it very, very slow compared to Samba.
Samba support or a better iDevice application that allows us to select the app to display content in. Either one will make me a happy camper.
