Just saw this on the PlugApps forum (link below). As someone who was looking closely at addressing some of Pogoplug's limitations by using PlugApps, I'm disappointed.

I'm not taking sides but I will say I wish the boys would play nice.

I'm split. Right now I don't care because Cloud Engines traded toys in for security measures. Big whoop. But then again .. the pogoplug UI is totally wrong to being with. It's just a web page, right? So why do I even need to connect to my.pogoplug.com at all? They need a Cloud OS, one that I host completely liberated of their network save for updates.

Does this, mean that those of us who want/need to can keep my.pogoplug.com and also load up samba..?

Yes, it's just a way to add packages. Samba is one of those packages. Search this forum for Samba. It's a topic that has been discussed a lot.
