At least on my router, it works the same as other router security like WEP or WPA passwords. MAC address filtering only applies to wireless devices. Since you directly connect the pogoplug to the router with an network cable. You should not have to do anything.

I Use MAC address filtering on my router so that only selected machines get on the internet. I presume that I will need to add the MAC for my Pogoplug (when it arrives)?
Thanks Doug, but I have Access control for wireless and Internet access, so I think I may still have a problem. Is it easy to get to the command line on the Pogoplug? A quick ifconfig will give me the MAC address.

bidmead said: You raise an interesting point, Gordon. Yes, it's easy enough to ssh into the Pogoplug, but I've just tested this and I notice that since the last firmware update the ifconfig command no longer works. It's no big deal -- the utility is still encapsulated inside the "Swiss Army Knife" application busybox. It just means that CE no longer provides a link named "ifconfig" to it in any of the directories on the path. This is easily fixable, but if you just want to use it as a one-off type "busybox ifconfig" instead of "ifconfig". -- Chris
Thanks Chris, I wonder if "ip addr show" has taken over from "ifconfig", of course until the plug arrives its all rather speculative

Hi Chris,
well the little pink toy arrived and is working like a dream, I looked on the router for the mac address and then assigned a fixed DHCP ip, put the mac in the firewall access control and all was hunky dory. Do you just SSH into the device?
On the other hand geeks just try things so here I go.

I know this is an old thread but I thought I would mention for those less technically oriented.
Just look at the bottom of the PogoPlug stand.
the numbers following the word MAC are the mac address
(it is 6 pairs of numbers and letters separated by colons)
example xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
Update:
I must appologize for my know-it-all tone in the post above.
The MAC address found on the bottom of the unit is for the "physical" ethernet port. Unfortunately the wireless radio's MAC address can (as far as I can tell) only be found using ssh as mentioned above.
BTW on my pogoplug pro I used the command
/sbin/ifconfig -a
to get the needed info
