is there a way to manually set thumbnails for videos?

i'm just picky and will probably never be happy with whatever thumb is automaticly generated.

Ditto. I agree and would love to be able to select a specific frame during playback in the web interface or just upload a PNG or JPEG or something.

I agree! This is a big oversite in my opinion. This is one of the advantages iTunes has over the Pogoplug approach.
