I use the wildly popular 1Password management utility for Mac OS X but it doesn't work with my.pogoplug.com. Out of the several hundred sites which I use it for this is the first time I've had a problem with it not working on a particular site.

Does my.pogoplug.com do something unusual on their login page? I've also got a message into 1Password support and will follow-up here when I hear back from them.

Wow, those 1Password support folks are fast. I've already received two responses from them one in email and one on Twitter.

Email Reply:

Hi Michael,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. I'm really sorry you're having problems with the PogoPlug site. This site is using Javascript to load in the login form. Right now, 1Password has trouble with some of these kinds of forms. We are investigating ways to handle these better for a future release.

However, I'm not one to give up just like that, I had a look at the source code for the site and think I may have a way to make 1Password work with PogoPlug.

I've attached a file called "PogoPlug.1pif" which you can double click on and have this imported into 1Password. If you then edit the details with your login details and try to submit the form. One thing I couldn't do is get it to submit the login automatically, so you may need to click the login manually.

Please let me know how it turns out.

Thanks!

Twitter reply:

@MacMike I'm sorry, I think I am getting confused because the form fields have an "id" attribute, but not "name". I will need an update.

I'll keep this thread updated as I receive further info.

So apparently this is a problem due to the Javascript on the my.pogoplug.com login page as well as the use of the "id" attribute instead of the "name" attribute possibly.

I notice that there are no begin or end form tags used and that all of the form processing is done in Javascript so in essence 1Password would have to be able to interpret Javascript in order to plug in the proper values and submit them since there are no HTML tags that indicate what the form actually does.

Any chance of this getting made more compatible?

Was there a need in doing it this way for security for some reason? I don't understand why if so because none of the banking sites I use cause 1Password any problem and I know they are designed with security in mind.

Here's the last email message I have received from them:

Thanks for trying that idea, I'm really sorry it didn't work. It certainly looks like this is down to the JavaScript.

It might be worth dropping the PogoPlug folks a line and mentioning this problem, we've found developers tend to be responsive to requests to improve how their services work with 1Password.

I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you.

I sent an email to pogoplug support and here is their reply:

Michael

I added an enhancement request in our system to support logging in with 1Password. You're about the 4th person to ask Pogoplug support for this capability to be added. The forums at pogoplugged.com are the best place to drum up support from other users for things you'd like to see added to Pogoplug.

Should you have further questions, please reply to this email. Otherwise this ticket will close in about 24 hours. Even after it closes, feel free to contact us at http://support.pogoplug.com/requests/anonymous/new

So all those that would like to see this capability added to pogoplug for the Macintosh application 1Password then please post a reply on this thread so that the visibility of this issue can be raised.

Thanks.

Brand new to PP and it's the FIRST thing I tried to do - and it failed. I tried manually entering info in 1PW but that didn't work either.

Come on. Is Peter Redmer even aware of this thread? Would like some official comment on this, PLEASE. (Is that the magic word?)

Another 1Password user that would appreciate the improved handshake on the Pogoplug site. Not surprised that 1Password was so responsive, they have a very good reputation of customer service. I for one have started to generate a not so generous opinion of Pogoplug.

I would also like 1password to be supported, any indication on when this might happen?

1Password user here who would also like to be able to use the product with my.pogoplug.com. It shouldn't be that hard to degrade gracefully by providing both traditional HTML form fields and manipulating said fields with javascript for the processing.

Count me in on this as well. I would love to see a solution to this.

It's been nearly 10 months since this thread was started. Sure would be nice to know if the dev was working with 1P to alleviate this issue.

I'm not who I think I am and I'm not who you think I am, but I am who I think you think I am.

Apparently they aren't paying much attention to this thread. I would suggest that each individual who wishes to see this supported open a support ticket with them about it and specifically requesting support for 1Password.

Do so by going here:
