My plug will be arriving Monday. I'm guessing it will not have the update from the 16th. From what I've read, there is no way for me to pull the new firmware. Will the new firmware be downloaded when I fire it up the first time or is there some kind of schedule when updates are retrieved?

Thanks.

The Pogoplug pulls down firmware updates automatically and it happens transparently in the background. The new firmware update has gone out in a rolling fashion, so while many plugs are updated, it will continue for the next couple of days or so. In other words, when you plug it in you won't get an "immediate" update per se, but it should happen soon.

Thanks Peter. Does the plug reboot then automatically or are the changes implemented dynamically?

I've never watched it complete a firmware update in real time, so I am not sure if it reboots when complete. One way or another, I checked mine this morning and it is running the new firmware and working perfectly, I didn't have to do anything on my end.

In other words, if it does indeed need to reboot, it must be doing it automatically :)

Hey gents - the firmware upgrade will shut down the Pogoplug software process including unmounting your drives, killing any transcode or metadata scanning, thumbnail generation, etc; but it does not force or generally require a power cycle or reboot to the hardware - I hope that answers the question!

Thanks Jon and Peter for your help
