I understand how the PS3/Xbox360 see the files on the Pogoplug locally, but how does the PS3/Xbox360 access the drive remotely since they are behind a router?

v2.1.0 (March 16, 2010)
We've added many new features and bug fixes for this release and we're looking forward to hearing from you on them. Over the next few days we will be rolling out these features to groups of users at random (no favoritism here!) - here's how you can tell if you have the new feature set available to you. On the General Settings Page, next to the name of your Pogoplug Enabled Device you should see a number - that's the number of the firmware - if it's 2.0.3, please be patient - we're still working on updating you to the new system. If it's 2.1.0, congratulations - you are all set!
Media Streaming for PS3, Xbox360 and Seagate FreeAgent
Pogoplug owners can now easily access, share, and stream their media directly to their Xbox 360 or PS3 from any local or remotely located Pogoplug enabled device. Users can enable sharing by checking the Enable checkboxes for the drives you wish to view on your device. If someone has shared a directory with you that has media and you have a drive enabled in your account, you will be able to see their media in your game / theatre system as well.
Web-based Active Copy
Users can now set up Active Copy operations on their Pogoplug Enabled Devices. Similar to Active Copy on the Drive App, Web Active copy operations can be between any two folders in your Pogoplug account on the same drive, on different drives, even on different devices.
Web UI New Look and Feel
We've streamlined the UI for the website and added the following features:
- Users can now share a single file with others
- Search by source - you can now separate out your search results by drive
- Select multiple files / folders to copy - in the Action Pane for copy files there is a checkbox on each file and folder that you can tick, allowing you to select multiple files / folders to copy to another drive or Pogoplug
- Rename in place for folders /files - you can now rename your folders by clicking the "abc" icon next to the folder or file - no more clicking the rename button
Tips and Tricks
We have added tips and tricks for using the website in a number of places - you can always dismiss these by checking "Don't display this hint automatically"
Security
SSH now disabled by default - with the release of 2.1.0 we have disabled SSH by default on the Pogoplug. Turning it on is simple; go to the Security Settings menu in Settings and click "Enable SSH access for this Pogoplug enabled device" under the Pogoplug Enabled Device into which you would like to be able to SSH.
Known Issues
Streaming to Xbox/PS3/FE Theatre+
- Drives need to be enabled one at a time in the Media Settings Menu of the website
- Drives that have been enabled will be disabled when your Pogoplug enabled device reboots; this will include a firmware update or power cycle
- While all drives will show up in the Local Drives folder of your console, only the contents of the first drive will show up in the Pictures/Music/Video filters
- PS3 will not show files in directories 7 levels or more deep

Good question! When you share a directory with someone, that directory will show up on their Pogoplug enabled device in "files shared with me". When you enable a drive on your Pogoplug and find it on your console, in Local Drives you'll see one called shared files (or files shared with me) - that's how you can get to them files behind your router :)
@Jon.QA, I am still confused, if I have my PlayStation 3 at location "A" and my pogoplug is on my home network at location "B" how can my PlayStation know where the Pogoplug is located if it is not on its local network (without having a firmware update on the PS3)? I know if I am on the local network at home that it will detect the Pogoplug like my other DLNA server software on my PC, but once you get out of that local network behind the router I don't understand how it is able to find the Pogoplug?
Ah..so to clarify - you are absolutely correct - there must be a Pogoplug on the same local network as the PS3, for sure.
The way remote works is this: someone shares content to you from a remote Pogoplug to your Pogoplug (same network as PS3), then your local Pogoplug will have be able to present that content to the PS3 as a "local drive"
Hope that helps!
I dont see where to enable each drive in the media settings menu in settings .. I go to my.pogoplug.com/settings.html and click on media settings and the only thing that shows up is a check box for showing thumbnails and under that is transcoding settings but nothing that says enable drive for sharing http://www.flickr.com/photos/84456052@N00/4442833466/
Active Copy Question.
Go to my plug setup active copy from My plug (on 2.1.0) to a friends (probably not the latest FW) then I get a warning my email address's and passwords do not match.
It's not clear what it is, my plug, the remote plug, or even none of the above and the remote plug is not at 2.1.0 yet. It's not clear if I need to be logged in to both pogoplugs with the same ID, but I know I can see the remote plug and create a folder on the remote plug so I have access.
How many dyas will it be till the update it sent out to all of us I am still on the old one ...
Thanks
Allen
@Allen - the firmware update went out in a rolling fashion and if you haven't gotten it already, it should be within the next few days.
thanks -
rolling based Randomly? Day of Signup? IP address? Mac Address? Just curious

Good question. I would try unregeristing the Pogoplug from My.Pogoplug, wait a minute or two and then try and activate it.
Hopefully it will check in and grab the update right then. If not then may have to send a request to support@pogoplugwith your plugs ID #.

My preference is an option to pull releases, including old and possibly beta releases (I know dangerous) but options are good.

Mine apparently updated the firmware sometime since yesterday when I first installed the PogoPlug. I tried telnet and ssh and was refused. I found the ssh enable option but just looked and cancelled because there is no information on what it really did and what password it referred to. Almost immediately I get and error from my.pogoplug. It says this and is dead, even after a restart. One day and its messed up - good work guys.

I have the same error now and I got this thing yesterday so it worked for almost 1 day I think I miss my 129.00 now.

Where are you seeing these RPC errors? When you look in the settings screen, what firmware version do you see next to your Pogoplug?
Hey folks - we're looking into this right now - anyone else seeing this?
One important thing to try - clear your browser cache, and see if you're still getting the error. We'll update as soon as we know more.
You do not get to see any screen when you log on to my.pogoplug.com the screen clears and you arer see this message
Error

click ok when you click ok the screen clears and you see a blank web page
iphone gives session expired error over and over
firefox

google chrome

David, can you try clearing your browser's cache and refreshing the screen and see if this still happens?
Once you get this RPC error it almost impossible to see anything else. Its in the main screen, but the error window replaces that screen, so that is it. I did find the coded https screen for enabling and entering a new password, which I went ahead and entered this time. So now I have direct ssh access. That did not however fix the error, even after a restart. And I cannot log out from the web interface to try logging back in. The web interface shows nothing but the error.
Gee, I have designed and built 2 embedded computers, both running Linux and this is really frustrating. I may be ready for my $129 back too.
Mike B
cleared the cache same error on both browsers
I can access the drive on my computer with the pogo software
its the browsers having a problem
Agreed - that's a web access problem of some kind, for sure. Pls email me at jon@pogoplug.com with your device ID or account number and we'll take a look at these cases tonight. The issue is not universal, but I don't think it's just you two either. We want to get to the bottom of this ASAP and we are actively working on the problem now.
Thanks,
Jon
Jon,
This is happening to MANY users right now. Check the other threads. They are full of users with this problem. Do we all need to e-mail you?
