I would love to hear how people are using the Active Copy feature of the Pogoplug drive app, and what features they would like to see added.

I would like to use this capability to make files from from work computer available when traveling. I note that if you delete a file from the source directory, it remains in the active copy directory. That means that the active copy directory will tend to become bloated with deleted files over time.

A useful additional feature would be a full two way synchronization. File changes or additions to the active copy would be reflected back to the source directory. That would make using files between my laptop and desktop seamless.

I aggree this is a much needed feature.

It's on the product backlog :) - in the meantime, I can tell you that on a PC, I've had good luck with SyncBack and Allway Sync - both of which perform well with Pogoplug for two way sync (and both are free)

I think active copy should be a 2 way sync, not one way copy for sure... just like dropbox!

At first I thought Active Copy was 2 way synchronization... I actually bought the pogoplug as a dropbox replacement, so I would get my data stored on my own drive and no monthly fees.

But I got quite disappointed with the OSX and Windows apps. It's not very clear what happens when you setup a custom folder.

On Windows I got a P: that apparently maps the pogoplug device in the same way as samba or webdav would do, which I already have before with my linux server.

I would really like to see the active copy being dropbox like! just simple, no config apart from username and password and you get a pogoplug folder with everything you have in the P: drive, but synced, no on-the-fly network samba stuff.

I think mapping a drive over the internet is not the best option... specially because upload rates are usually crappy, and even if you get a good one, its quite unresponsive.

Dropbox solution is beautiful (2 way sync)... works perfect and when you get your files, they are there, stored locally and ready for use at full speed!

Have you guys considered build something around rsync? I was planning on do that myself, but I decided to give pogoplug a try and see if it would do that for me... now that I know it won't, I think I'll start my own "dropbox replacement", basically just setting up a nice UI in QT or WX that runs rsync from time to time... not the most elegant solution, but should work!

my 2 cents!

PS: By the way... 10 thumbs UP for the web and iphone apps! Really like those!!!!! It shows that you guys are focusing more on that side of the product than the OS specific integration!! really well done! :)

I agree with the automatic delete comment. It would be great if when you delete something in the original folder, the copy on the PP is deleted as well.

2-way would be nice too, but its not as important to me.

During Active Copy this deleting or not deleting of files we do not know which files were updated.

After Active Copy is finished have it provide a a list of updated files, with their path. That way we can go in and rename or delete them and the like. At present we do not have a clue as to what files were updated. Maybe the files could be tagged with 'Copy' or some such.

Cordially,

RicD
