One of my main purposes in purchasing a pogoplug is to allow friends/family to get to my photos and download whatever they want without me having to burn CDs and send them.  As you know, there are many excellent photo sharing sites out there but the one I use only allows people to download/save them one at a time.  This is too tedious and time consuming.  I was hoping that pogoplug would be a simple solution for my problem.

How can my friends/family download all files in a shared folder at once?

It's coming, very soon! In a little over a week we are pushing out a new version of the web app that supports downloading entire shared folders. When you share a folder, they will have the option of assigning a password to their account. Once they do this they will see an option to download the whole shared folder.

Another option that they can do right now is to download the Pogoplug drive app and drag and drop the files you are sharing with them right on their desktop. To do this, have them click on the link at the top of share page to assign a password to their account. Then, after they download the Pogoplug drive software, they just need to sign in with their email address and password and they'll have desktop access to just the folders that you've shared.

Awesome! So, with the new web app next week, if the folder has 100 pictures in it, can they select 30 of them they like and then download all 30 at once or do they have to download all 100?

Poor Jed and Pogoplug team - include one feature and get requests for 10 more based on it. :P

No problem - we love the dialog and feedback :) Regarding the question above for selecting multiple files within a folder for download, not yet. It's on the roadmap.

Thanks Jed. It's your team's openness to feedback that will make Pogoplug great. Keep up the good work!

I have been anxious to try the new web app's ability to download many files at once. Yesterday I sent a friend a link to the shared folder. He said he ended up downloading each individual picture (there were 75) because when he tried to download all at once they downloaded to a zip file and he didn't know what to do with it or how to get the pics from the zip file.

Perhaps a zip file seems pretty basic to many who will read this thread, but to many non-technical types (such as Mom, Grandma, my friend etc.) they just want the pictures and don't know what to do when they see a zip file. Suggestions for helping them?

When I tried it and everything downloaded to a zip file I clicked on it and (because I was at work) a version of WinZip opened and I was able to access the pictures. Is there a "self extracting" type of file or other solution that only requires Grandma to click on so she gets the files and doesn't give up? If Grandma gives up, pogoplug isn't the solution and I'll have to keep searching for something that is.

If they can view a photo they can copy it with a printscreen programs. They don't need to download to share it on some other website.
