we are having the same problem...NO DRIVE DETECTED, no matter what we do, HELP!!!
Hi,
I need some serious help on getting Pogoplug to work, or to do anything other than take up space on the desktop. My office purchased two Pogoplugs because we thought it would be a good idea to help us work on our office projects from home. So we got the Pogoplugs three days ago and we cannot figure out how to get it to do anything. Here's what we did.
Day 1
1) Plug into wall.
2) Plug into network.
3) Go online and activate. So far, no problems.
4) Add Seagate 350 GB USB drive.
5) Log into account. Library says, "No drive detected."
6) Spend a half hour unplugging the drive and replugging it in and clicking on random items on the Pogoplug menu.
7) Add Maxtor 100 GB Pocket USB Drive. Library says, "No drive detected."
8) Spend a half hour unplugging the drive and replugging it in and clicking on random items on the Pogoplug menu.
9) Click around a lot on various options. Help is useless because it assumes that the drive is working and only has help topics for people whose drives are detected.
Day 2
1) Plug in Seagate 350 GB USB drive.
2) The drive is immediately detected in the Library. Hooray.
3) Message on screen: "This drive is not available."
4) Spend a half hour unplugging the drive and replugging it in and clicking on random items on the Pogoplug menu.
5) Add a 1 GB SanDisk Cruzer.
6) Library says, "No drive detected."
7) Remove and replug the 1 GB SanDisk Cruzer.
8) The drive is immediately detected in the Library. Hooray.
9) Message on screen: "This drive is not available."
10) Spend a half hour unplugging the drive and replugging it in and clicking on random items on the Pogoplug menu.
Day 3
If we don't get this thing to work today we're sending both of them back. It isn't heavy enough to use as a paperweight or doorstop.
Can anyone give us any advice on how to get this device to work? We're getting frustrated.
Thanks!!
Please contact support@pogoplug.com. They'll get back to you right away and help figure out what's going on.
Thanks, Jed. One of the folks in my office sent a message to support and Christopher responded. Hopefully we can get the issue resolved soon.
We finally got Pogoplug to work. The issue was DHCP. Pogoplug requires it; we don't use it. Once we turned it on, Pogoplug worked just fine. It would be nice if we could get into the Pogoplug's linux OS and manually assign i.p. but that is not possible as far as I can see.
Assigning manual IP is possible. All our stuff is static IP. We do not have the luxury of changing to DHCP. AdamC has a cool set of instructions that will work if followed pretty much as written. I might add, they are not for the faint-of-heart! It would be important to add, in the instructions it is clearly written, that a misplaced keystroke could change a "Plug" into a "Brick!" So, the "Plug" is capable of both static IP and a little magic (grin)!
Pogoplug Farming(tm) is Fun!
