I thought the brain trust here on the Pogoplugged community would have jumped on this one. You can preserve your indexing and shares by cloning, not simply copying, your original drive to your replacement drive.
Of course, don't attach both drives to your Pogoplug as Pogoplug will get confused.

What is the best way of upgrading the disk that I have attached my PogoPlug? I want to attach a larger hard drive and use the currently attached disk for a different purpose. I really prefer not having to reinvite people to have access to the various folders. If there is a way to accomplish this without taking the files off line for an extended period of time, that would be even better.
What would you recommend as the best way of cloning the disk? Should I use dd on a different linux machine? Any windows apps that would be good for this? The true technical challenge: can I clone the disk without unplugging the disk and taking it offline (or is this wishful thinking)?
You could try it with a normal Backup Software like Acronis True Imaging for example they have freeware Versions in the Internet. I think you might even keep the drive connected during the Cloning process but I am not 100% sure if the pogoplug will recognise the new one afterwards (but I would give it a shot)

Since the Pogoplug adds files to your HD that you can't see with the drive software you would need to put the HD on your computer to clone everything that the plug uses to find files, etc.
I was able to upgrade the disk. Formally cloning the disk was not necessary. It was enough to format the new disk with the same file system as the old disk, connect both disks to the same computer and copy all the files. It took quite some time but it worked once I connected the new disk back to the PogoPlug.
To accomplish the same without taking the disk off-line, I guess I could have installed Samba on the PogoPlug, shared the entire disk, and copied it across the network.
We have a cool feature coming out on the 16th that will make this easier. Stay tuned...
