I don't care what color it is. It is stuck in a place where nobody sees it and it works great.
Sorry, but Pink is so distasteful that I have started looking for alternates to Pogoplug to purchase. I understand the economics advantage of a single color, but it should at least be a color that does not exclude a large segment of the potential market. I recommend black or dark gray.
FreeAgent DockStar is on sale for $50 less than Pogoplug. Another alternative are the SheevaPlug or GuruPlug which also are linux plug computers in addition to offering features similar to Pogoplug. It is ashame that Pogoplug insists on Pink, many of us only start searching for alternates because of the color limitation.
Pink? It's pink?
Who cares when you are blind?
If it does what you need it to do and worth the money to you, then you will use it.
If you are that concerned about color of a hardware product that you have IN YOUR OWN HOUSE, you might need to actually come out of the closet. Your not carrying the POGO out in public, are you?
By the way, PINK is a hot color from a woman's point of view.
Despite your feeling about the color, it says a lot about how this company listens to customers or ignores them.
If that is all that is bothering you, grab a can of paint in your color. Being colorblind it looks good to me.
The color is the color. I remember when Sling Media came out with the Slingbox and a bunch of people complained that it had a trapezoid shape and did not look like the rest of their boxes.
In no time people started loving the difference because their friend started asking about the strange looking device and they got a chance to brag about it.
Sorry, I think you are making WAY too much of the pink. It makes not difference to me. It's not like all this stuff sits on my desk.

I agree and some of these come back as free feedback from potential customers or customers who bought the item and are trying to sell it as a word of mouth to friends who asks you to provide feedback for other options so they can consider buying it. If I knew how this company reacted to customers who provide such feedback (in some cases they start it by asking for our feedback first and get defensive about it) then I would have bought another product instead and gave my money to a more deserving business, just like how some of my friends have recently since pink is the only option. Time to explore those other options, it's rare in this day and age that the most negative thing about a product isn't said by disgruntled customer but by the members of company that belittle, insult by insinuation, and attack those loyal customers who provide feedback trying to improve them.

If you don't care what color it is then it seems strange you'd place it where nobody sees it. My pogoplug is out in the open because it doesn't look gaudy or out of place like this v2 product.
For any product there is a combination of size, color, and shape. No one is complaining about the size or the shape but definitely the color. Trust me on this one, most guys are not going to brag about it because it's pink. It seems even the ones who defends it and didn't think it was too bad said they hid it, that should tell pogoplug a lot about it, if not then you better speak with someone in marketing to make sense of it because word of mouth sells much better when an object can be viewed without ridicule or some feeling of shame that requires hiding it.
When I worked at Tmobile we carried the Motorola Razors in several colors, pink was one of those colors, while it was popular among women it was never considered among men for themselves. For a while we ran out of the other color options and were down to the Pink Razors for months because we couldn't clear them, our retention department normally offered the Razor phone at a discount due to it's overall popularity, they ended up giving it away instead for enticement since people wouldn't buy it versus the other colors. Pink will sell initially because some women want it, after those numbers are satiated then you'll be lucky to give away the rest. When a few people provide such feedback without being given other options, consider also how many don't buy it because there are no other choices for them to buy this product from you.
Keep in mind the feedback we're giving on this are from members who liked the product enough to buy it, use it, and register at a forum. We talk with our friends and family and have a general idea what makes them tick and why they buy things. I came here like I assume a few others to see how I can get more out of my device and suggest improvements so I can buy another upgraded version a few years later due to how I was impressed with my first purchase. I've never experienced any other company that treats their customers like what I'm seeing on this forum. All many of us wanted to do is see this product and company succeed even more, then make their next item by adding a few more tweaks that would improve the user experience, and functionality. I guess this company must not care too much for loyal customers or repeat sales.
'You can always tell the pioneers by the arrows in their backs.'
Pogo will make pink cool for dudes again - just like 1987.
If at first you don't succeed, call it version 1.0

The only piece of computer equipment people see is my laptop. My router, pogo, hard drives, etc., (even my printer) are all tucked away with the dsl modem in a small room. Even if it sat out in the open I wouldn't care. I just have no desire to have a lot of electronic clutter in my work space.

Hey, I have two pink shirts now!

$99.00 vs $300. I don't think so... and I don't need the business features. I think this company is not listening to the people. They invested in the pink and they are trying to ride with it.
I think everyone here should stop and think about reaching the "little 12 year old girl" place in each of us. Then the color won't be a problem for all of you!
:)
Ok, i feel the same way most do. Great product, but pink, really...? So I took the problem into my own hands and fixed it. I now have a PogoPlug that looks like the new business version. This was a very easy project. I have posted a tutorial on my personal site.
Nice job Micah.
However, users should not have to disassemble their newly purchased product. Nor should they have purchase spray paint and tools, put their product back together and hope they didn't damage something.
The frustrating thing about the company is their decision to ignore users and potential customers. They are not dumb or deaf. However after investing thousands (if not more) into the PogoPlugs parts they are not going change even if it's the right thing to do. At least not until the inventory is depleted.
This decision has cost them countless potential customers. People have every intention of making the purchase and lose interest at sight of the hot pink.
Just imagine if Apple choose to make all iPhones hot pink. It would still sell, but not nearly as many and the complaints would be rampant.
The fact that a customer would purchase this product then disassemble it, paint it, reassemble it, take a picture of it, go to the company's forums, write a post, share his picture and written tutorial on how he altered it, says VOLUMES about what many people feel about this ridiculous color decision...

Byrdman,
1. Users do not have to disassemble their product, Micah chose to.
2. Users do not have to purchase paint and tools, Micah chose to.
3. Pogoplug chose a color scheme for a unique product identity. If, in the course of product research, a PP customer didn't notice that the product includes some pink colored parts, I'd like to know what they were looking at. Decide if the color is a deal-breaker before making your purchase rather than bitching about it afterwards.
4. If the color bothers you so much, don't buy it in the first place or buy the drab and boring Seagate Dockstar instead.
5. The corrolation between iPhones and the PP is ridiculous. The iPhone is a personal, portable, hand-held device that is with the user most of the time, so it's appearance (to some) can be important (thus the popularity of skins and cases). The PP sits in a corner and is rarely seen. If you don't like the color of it, put it in a pretty box and get on with your life.
6. The fact that a customer would purchase this product then disassemble it, paint it, reassemble it, take a picture of it, go to the company's forums, write a post, share his picture and written tutorial on how he altered it, says VOLUMES about what a great product this is and the pride in ownership that many of it's customers have...
Death is Conquered While You Slumber- Seven is the Perfect Number
X I couldn't agree more! ... well said sir .... now let those who are staying get on with enjoying their pogoplug!
Remember, its not what life does to you, but what you do with what life does to you, that matters.
This is an amazing product, especially when one includes the iOS applications. That is why I invested the $130. I painted it because like many, I thought the color stunk. Many of my friends that I show the PP website to are turned off by the color so I must agree that it may have been a bad decision. So now that I painted it I can show my buddies my own pics. The PP would be worth purchasing if the entire thing was pink. It really is a great product!
