I keep getting the following when I try to activate my Seagate FreeAgent Dockstar. Any idea why?

Please contact support@pogoplug.com. They'll be able to figure out what's happening.

February 17, 2010 6:30 PM

I already did 3 times since last friday but I haven't got a reply yet.

February 17, 2010 7:40 PM

Sorry this is taking so long. I just talked to our support team and they have been trying to reach you since the 13th when your first request came in. It's possible their emails are getting stuck in your spam folder. Can you write to me directly at jed@pogoplug.com and I'll forward your email on to them?

February 18, 2010 11:07 AM

Nothing's in my spam folder. Anyway, I just replyed to an email Adam Collardey sent me.

Unbelievable bad Seagate and Pogoplug support!! No reply for days then excuses when they do. I taking this thing back and wait for the iomega one to come out!!

February 20, 2010 6:55 PM

I just spoke with Adam and Chris and it sounds like they are in touch with you. I'm sorry this took so long and I really appreciate your patience. I'll follow-up with them later tonight to make sure you are up and running.

Hector

This is Christopher.
I've written you twice this past weekend and just want to make sure you've received these mails. If not, please send me a PM and I'll give you my cell number.

Sincere apologies for these issues.

Chis, there's no need to deal with this issue anymore since I already returned the dockstar back to the store this weekend.

February 23, 2010 1:59 PM

I have to say I'm very surprised, because when ever I have a problem or better yet just a simple question, I can say that Chris has answered my problem or questions with very detailed information and very quickly too..

I am returning this thing, whatever this is. Seagate should at least offer an 800 phone number. Pogo Plug? It is a good name for this thing that is needs to be unplugged for

I just bought my DockStar yesterday, am attempting to set it up today, and can't get past the "neverending activation circle". Support will have received my email outlining the details, but here's an overview.

I've entered my personal info, connected the unit, got a green light, everybody's communicating, and I enter my 26 character identifier code. The next screen asks me to verify the identifier, and if I'm SURE it's right, try signing into my account.

The account sign-in page has two options: Already have an account, Don't have an account. I'm not sure if the initial email prompt during the first activation screen created an account for me, but it definately didn't prompt for a password.

So I left it blank. Then I clicked "forgot password" hoping it was a generic password created that would later need to be changed. But I get denied because my email address has not been used with the Pogoplug service.

The next logical step seemed to go the "Don't have an account" route. But this seemed exactly like the original activation sequence with different pictures. Again, everything plugged in, green light, found the device, everyone's talking, but I have to enter that dang 26 char. identifier again1! Once I do, back to the sign in page where I don't have an account.

I must've typed that identifier six times using different browsers because I thought that might be the problem. Shut off the firewall, allowed pop-ups, begged for cookies!

The only thing that struck me as a possible part of the problem was this quick flash of an input entry screen that instantly closes and then moves on to the "searching for device" screen. In that brief second that it is there, I can see several red entry boxes, but I can't read what they are because the page disappears so quickly. Hitting back on the browser, or "previous", skips this phantom page entirely. To see it again I had to dump my cache and try to catch another glimpse.

That got old really quick, so I wrote Support and decided to babble on about my story here in this somewhat similar thread.

I'm confident that Support will be able to help and this situation will be a good rebuttal to Hector and SKM's rants.

I'll keep in touch!

Well I can safely say there's nothing wrong with customer support for this site. I didn't even finish my post by the time Chris got back to me with the solution. And it's a Saturday! Chris, take a day off! Thanks again.

Hi, I just got Seagate's Freeagent Dockstar, but can't figure out how to assign the static IP address which pre-sales support confirmed is possible to do. I also attempted to search my local network for the device and unable to do so (Windows 7, 64bit). I am able to access it through pogoplug, and as a mapped drive letter after installing the ppdrive software. I do not want to install the software on all computers though, and would like to create a shortcut with the IP. Any suggestions?
Guy.

p.s. does anyone have a support phone#? The one I located is not staffed on Saturdays.

Hi I am trying to setup my dockstar and am having the exact same problem as described by Gregarrio above, any ideas on how to proceed?

Did you setup WFS?

From User guide found here.

Enabling Windows File Sharing on the DockStar Network Adapter
You can access the network adapter on your local network without using the Pogoplug
interface by setting up Windows File Sharing (WFS). This method is also beneficial in the
event of a failed Internet connection.
Note: All users on your local network will have access to the content that is enabled for file sharing using this method.
You must first set up file sharing using the Pogoplug service. Thereafter, you can use
Windows file sharing without having to sign in to your account. Each USB drive attached to the network adapter must be enabled for Windows file sharing. You can do this at any time, even if you chose not to subscribe to the Pogoplug service after the free first year.

To enable Windows File Sharing:
1. Launch your Web browser and type http://dockstar.pogoplug.com in the address bar.
2. Sign in to your account.
3. Click the Settings button on the menu at the top.
The Settings page opens.
4. Click WFS in the left pane.
The Windows File Sharing page opens.
5. Select Active next to the device to which you want to allow access. Refresh your browser if you don’t see the menu for setting access permission (in the following step).
6. Set the access permission to Read and write or Read only. (You can also disable file
sharing be selecting Disabled.) Your permissions are set automatically once you make
your selection.
7. Repeat the steps above for each USB drive attached to the DockStar network adapter.

Sorry that was a reply to the file sharing question he had. I edited my respones to make it clearer as to what I was replying to.

Far as your issues and activation. The Pogoplug is asking you to type in the 26 character identifier code and it's not being accepted? I have only had this happen once and it was becuase the code was assigned to a different user because the Pogolug was a used one. Pogo Support had to reassign it.

If yours is not taking the 26 character identifier code you might need to contact support for help.

no the problem is that it doesn't allow you to create an account during activation, it jumps the screen as explained by greg above

I did the steps above and the drives didn't show up in network neighborhood.  Then the next day they magically appeared.  Now today they are gone.
