when i copy files to a folder on a pogo attached drive the files disappear, i'll have to unplug the drives run disk utility and restart the pogo and then plug in the drives... i was on the road and when i copied files into the pogo drive it did the same and then the folder showed up but it was empty inside when i know there were items in there which i had put there before and just copied. When I got home i plugged the drive directly to my computer and it poped up and the files were there, so I did the disk utility and restarted the pogo and reconnected drive to pogo and it started working again.

I'm running Mac OS X Snow leopard and my pogo is firmware 2.03 and I'm using the latest pogo desktop mount software.

You can see where this is going to cause problems, any similar incidents or suggestions for a fix?

RJ, can you contact support@pogoplug.com - they'll be able to figure out what's happening.

I have also a problem with disappearing files (I only use pdf files on the POGO)

My problem is that when I upload one file, sometimes another file disappears and if I upload that file again, a lot of times the first file disappears.....
I have a lot of folders filled with lots of files, so it is hard to keep checking if all the files are still there when I am uploading.
Very frustrating.........
We bought the Pogo because it should be easy to share files and our company shares a lot of files.
It is easy, but when files disappear it is not reliable at all.
The support is working on it, so I hope there will come a solution.

We work with Mac and upload everything using the Pogo website.

I also have disappearing files and directories. Mac OS 10.6.7, Pogoplug 3.0.1, Cloudstor drive, new installation started 5-19-2011 . I have also emailed tech support on this one, but a forum response may be needed due to the impact on new Mac users.

May 23, 2011 2:15 AM

Support told me to delete the invisible .cedata folder on the drive attached to the pogo, but unfortunatley that did not work.....

May 23, 2011 2:31 AM

I wonder if it is a Mac-thing.
We also have a pc with windows XP, I will try that.

We only upload pdf-files. The disappearing files are not the only problem. Pdf's lager then about 900kb are not being previewed. Support told me they are working on that and with the next pogo-update that should be solved.

I'm using 10.5.8, and the browser I use is Firefox.

I have tried uploading on a pc with XP and I have not seen any file disappear.

It is a work-around for me using a Windows-pc, because in our office we all work with mac.

Which browser do you use?

I am going to try if the problem remains on Mac using different browsers.

Somehow the problem is solved by using Google Chrome.....strange, but when I use Firefox file disappear and with Google Chrome all goes well.
It took a lot of patience to try where what problem was.
Simple solution, although the browser should not make the difference, Pogo mentions all the browsers in the specs.

@putterpartners,

I am happy to hear that using Chrome helped you work around this, but we certainly take all data loss seriously and want to prevent it in all cases. Certainly, this is not an issue we've reproduced in house. I have a few questions here that might help us figure out what's going on:

- What kind of Pogoplug device are you using and what firmware version?
- What file-system is the drive to which you are uploading?
- Does the problem happen with various files/file types, or only certain ones?

Thanks
-Nick

I use the Buffalo Cloudstor device.

The drive is only accessed through the ethernet connection, not sure on OS.

Random file types.

My Pogoplug enabled devices:

Pogoplug Pro, Device 2.5.9.5

Harddisk is a Lacie, Mac OS Extended (journaled)

We only use the pogo for uploading pdf-files, and it happens to random files.

Hi RJ,

I have the same problem. I have loads of pdfs (and doc, xls) etc shared through Pogoplug premium software. While I can view/open the files through the iphone, ipad app, using the browser simply shows the directory as empty !!

Not one file shows up !!

Cloudengines,

Pls get it fixed ASAP.

Cheers,
RR

Hello,
after really give it a good try, choogle chrome also leaves me with the same problems.
Files disappear (really vanish from the harddisk) or can not be uploaded (you see the progress during uploading, the file appears on screen, but after going to another folder the file is gone....)
I submit a ticket and Pogo came with some options (another harddisk, format the disk ect) but after trying them all the problem remains.
I can imagine if you use pogo for your holiday pics you will not notice if one or 2 files are missing.
But if you want to use it, as we do, professionally for sharing files it really matters if not all files are there.

I checked my drive after files disappeared and the are really gone, also if I look for hidden files. So pogo deleted one or two files after uploading other files. The drive I use is 500GB and I only have used under 2GB, so memory is not the problem.

I have all but given up on this device, I've lost major files, audio files, videos, digital filing system which contained all sorts of files scanned in to be shared by the accountant and legal to the point that it just does not make sense to confide in the integrity of the pogoplug system working consistently and dependably. I even purchased the sofware premium which they have been promoting and that is now having roubles loading on an independent Mac mini I bought to work as the stand alone instead of the pogo device

Now mind you I've been corresponding with tech support and most of the time, actually every time there was an issue I was told to remove my drives, attach to computer and run disk doctor, etc... and it got to the point that I had to do that once or twice a week and even after all that I lost over 1 TB of data on my 3 TB Raid10 drive attached to the pogo. It makes no sense, I have clients all over the world that now associate the pogo with problems, I'm in the music business and have thousands and thousands of people who downloaded pogo apps to get my music etc.. and now that has become a joke as well. It's very horrible what is happening here. Running disk doctor is not a panacea for the problems observed here over the last year and a half that I've been using this device. I'll buy 4 of the Business POGO's if I have to, if only it would work right!

I'm at the end of my rope with options and solutions and it's at the point that I'm blogging about this issue now. Please fix something and fast!

July 22, 2011 6:37 PM

@RJ and putterpartners,

I am sorry to hear that you are still running into these issues and, as I mentioned before, we definitely take all kinds of data loss seriously. Unfortunately, we have never been able to reproduce any issue like this in house and, outside of this thread, it isn't something we've heard anything about. Please pm me your support ticket numbers and I'll make sure to investigate again them thoroughly, and to pass all necessary info on to our Engineering team.

I noticed this started happening to me today. I would copy a file to a folder and it would instantly dissapear but I figured out that for me it only happens when Pogoplug is processing media files. If I stop it from processing and attempt to copy a file it doesn't disappear and sometimes the file I was attempting to copy shows up.

So not sure if this is what you guys are experiencing but it's a possible cause to your problem.

August 31, 2011 3:51 AM

I have tried a lot of things:
different browsers (safari, firefox, chrome, opera), different opperatingsystems (mac 10.5, 10.6, windows) and different drive formats. All accoording to the specs on the website.
But non of this solved the problem of the disappearing files and Pogo sent me another pogoplug.
But after a first try it was clear that the problem still remains with the second pogoplug......

August 31, 2011 4:08 AM

Finally came up with a workaround for this, I bought the pogo software and a used core 2 duo Mac mini and got rid of the pogo plug hardware. Problems stopped there for the most part, at least all the disappearing file issues did. It runs faster, does multiple media better and cost me about the same as a pogo unit. I took it one step further and installed an external raid drive (6TB raid 10) as my main drive and then have it time machined to an external USB drive twice a week.

I've been able to finally conduct business properly using the pogo system. It would be great if the software could be upgraded to perform the tracking and metrics features of the business pogo. That would be ultimate.

August 31, 2011 4:58 AM

But it is strange the pogoplug does not what is is suppost to do.
It sound great, but put into practice it does things on its own.......

September 28, 2011 1:57 PM

We are having the same problems. We are trying to set the pogoplug business up, attached to a USB-based 2TB Seagate HD, divided into two 1 TB partitions. We have seen the symptoms of files uploading apparently fine (both via web and via the desktop client, and both on Mac OS X Lion and on Windows 7). But then when you check the folder, the file isn't there. Today we keep getting email alerts that a certain shared folder has new content in it (even though no one is uploading anything) and when we follow the link to the folder to see it, it says either the device is offline or nothing shows in the folder. Meanwhile other folders on one of the partition now show up but when we go into the folder, they are empty. This despite painstakingly moving numerous MBs of files to be shared with our outside sales team. The combination of files appearing to copy and then not showing up selectively and at other times the drive just disappearing or folders showing up as empty is making this a completely non-viable solution for anyone trying to use it for business. Pogo's support has been very responsive (until today, where I've been trying to get an answer for about six hours and don't want to reboot anything for fear of screwing up diagnostic steps) but I've never really gotten a conclusive answer as to how to fix it or even if it can be fixed. Very disappointing, but we have spent so much time now trying to make this work, it's not worth the hassle.

I had also the email-problem.
Did not log in for several days, but some peeple got over 10 emails (few minutes apart) that new files were uploaded.
The Pogo should be an alternative to share files for the system we now use, it should be easy, but we did only bump into problems........I have lost all my trust in the Pogo.
We un-shared everyone and went back to our 'old' sharing-system.
Anyone knows an alternative?
On the internet there are lots of sites doing simular things Pogo does. Dropbox is to limitid, but there are other sites like 4shared, MiMedia, Box.net, SecurusVault, Livedrive Briefcase ect. Anyone tried one of these?

Same problem with my PogoPlug Pro with Premium service.

From a Mac I copy files from one finder window to the other. The mac shows it copying and then they instantly disappear. I made the mistake last week of trying it with a move and lost all my files! They are definitely not on the attached hard drive to the pogoplug!

I even go to the web interface. The new folder I create is shown in the web interface but no files!

What I've found is that if I copy one file at a time after the first 2-4 attempts result in lost files, then they finally stick.

I'm very worried that the integrity of all the files that I have stored on a RAID 1 array attached to the PogoPlug may now be in jeopardy!

This is a serious issue and needs to be address ASAP! A personal cloud is useless if it can't hold the data.

October 1, 2011 7:14 PM

To the folks who just started experiencing the problem in OSX Lion, we are aware of and have fixed a bug in development versions of the software where sometimes uploading copying a file to a Pogoplug-mounted drive via Finder would cause the file to be deleted immediately after upload. I do not have an exact date yet for a release that includes this bug fix, but the next time we push an update, you'll get it.
