Done - renamed the forum back to PlugApps and have also created a new forum for "3rd party app development," if there is discussion about specific app development outside of the PlugApps project. I have renamed the "general" dev forum as well for anything that doesn't fit :)
Categories: PogoPlug Development
This place is pretty polluted eh? With PlugApps slowly launching (if you know how to Google, you'll get it), I think it's time we clean out the answered, duplicate topics, leaving OpenPogo references for awhile. I of course mean both the Development forum and this 3rd-party app forum.
My idea is to make user/consumer questions about "How do I run *** app" in this 3rd Party forum and "How do I make *** app" in the development forum.
With PlugApps, there is one definitive environment for users to install apps on and developers to make apps for - with a 10 minute learning curve for users...and developers, so I expect to see more discussion about newer apps since we're no longer tied to the NSLU2 packages OpenPogo had been using. :)
Looking good! Just give us a few more days to make this documented well enough for users to use. :P
It's big though, especially if you like Linux. If you thought OpenPogo made the Pogoplug a computer, this will blow you away.
All you'll need is a USB drive for running PlugApps from - it's safer than installation to NAND. If you really want to though, we have a NAND guide for the v1 Pogoplug...
So are you recommending a USB thumb drive to run a the PlugApps from or a dedicated external HD?
As a side note...
I for one appreciate all the hard work you have put into this but it seems that you go from liking the Pogoplug, to well, basically trashing it.
Like you recommending TonidoPlug. http://www.pogoplugged.com/forum/thread/12377/Frustration/#3213
Or "you're right in that the specs of the Pogoplug are a let-down.. " http://www.pogoplugged.com/forum/thread/12520/Hmm.-Pogoplug-marketed-to-Devel...
And you said....
"I stopped using my Pogoplug about a month ago and never looked back. The entire OpenPogo fiasco wasn't exactly great either"
http://www.pogoplugged.com/forum/thread/12415/Too-Much-Drama-Not-Enough-Relia...
I for one am confused. Are you liking the PogoPlug when it serves your end needs or just what?
You'll need a USB thumb drive of at least 512MB. While you can use an entire HD, it'll be erased by the installer...not what most users want.
The user asked for an alternative. Well what else is on the market? TonidoPlug.
Pogoplug v2 has 91MB free NAND space. Disappointed.
My.Pogoplug.com uses a flash uploader now so I can't upload from work which uses an old version of Flash.
If I were to really bash and hate the Pogoplug, I wouldn't bother with making PlugApps work on it. I don't personally use my Pogoplug for file storage anymore and have a right to my opinion, as users do to knowing competition exists. If I do recall, I did write a disclaimer in a post that me writing about a competitor's product would cause trouble, and look where I am.
And no, I wasn't asking for free Pogoplugs just so I could claim victory and have free stuff. If that were the case, I would have taken it and ran, not posting here or anywhere else.
