I wonder if pogoplug could get quick on a wifi dongle option that would allow connectivity over a LAN/WAN in home?

As I said, Dockstar. $60 less than the Pogoplug v2, same device. $69 on Amazon.

But when you buy a dockstar you don't get the Pogoplug service. You have to pay $30 a month for it.

I could see OpenPogo adding some USB WiFi drivers so that a person with OpenPogo could put in a WiFi dongle and then have WiFi access.

This device looks like it comes with lifetime service as well?

February 10, 2010 8:38 AM

it doesn't.

It doesn't seem to show any monthly fees though, so what other charges would there be?

I think you get a year of free service and then it's $30 a year thereafter.

The iomega sites says, "99$ purchase price with NO ongoing fees"

Meh. For the $30 extra the Pogoplug costs your system runs Linux and all the expandability that offers.  I didn't see anything on the iomega site about that.

EDIT: Sorry fivoboy, I thought you meant the Dockstar.  You are correct my good sir, about the iomega device.

I bought the dockstar, it has a 1 year subscription after it<s 30$/ YEAR, wich is not much at all..

I got the Iomega iConnect, it came with free 1 year remote web access, after that you have to pay AUD 9.99 a year.

I have register the device a months ago, but until now I could not get the web access right. I have to tinker the router 1.e port forwarding which I do not know how to do it.

Anyway, I bought a Pogoplug, which is easier to get the folder up and share it with everyone.!!

I heard the firmware on the iConnect is even worse than that of the Pogoplug. I don't have an iConnect but I do have a Pogoplug and I'm dissapointed with the firmware on it, so I can only imagine the iConnect's...

This is a response to Amirniza. I to have an I-connect and had a hard time setting it up for web access. Like you I had a hard time with the port forwarding but got it figured out. If you want I can help you with it. I bought a Pogoplug because of the ease of setup and media steaming to my iOS devices much easier than the I-connect. And yes there is the annual fee of $9.99 after the first free year. Just wondering if hey will incorporate the new software features on the new Mobile Pogo for current customers.
