Have you found a solution to this? I have pretty much the same question. Using Retrospect 6 on a OS X 10.5 server. I was backing up to an external drive connected via FireWire. I detached it and connected to the Pogoplug Biz via USB. I can see all my back up catalogs but I cannot get Retrospect to link back to those sets.
I have a pogoplug device at home. At work, I have a server that manages backups using Retrospect 6 for Mac (OS X Server 10.5). The Pogoplug drive mounts properly on the server's desktop, and I can see files on the drive. I can create a folder named "Retrospect Backup". But when I try to configure a script in Retrospect to move a set of files offsite from the server to the Pogoplug drive, Retrospect does not see any subvolumes on Pogoplug, nor can it create a subvolume. Am I missing something? Is Pogoplug incompatible with Retrospect scripting somehow? Is there a workaround that will let me define a folder on Pogoplug as a Retrospect script's destination?
Thanks,

Does Retrospect run as root? It may be related to the issue I am trying to resolve:
http://www.pogoplugged.com/forum/thread/14548/Allow-root-access-to-drive-for-...
I got in touch with Pogoplug support and here is their response:
I reviewed Retrospect's KB article regarding NAS devices http://kb.dantz.com/display/2n/index.asp?c=&cpc=&cid=&cat=&catURL=&r=2.138919... and Retrospect requires AFP or SMB network broadcast protocols to select with Retrospect software.
Pogoplug does not work in this manner. Instead, when you login at my.pogoplug.com or using the Pogoplug Drive Application, you are actually logging into Pogoplug Service which then lists your folders and files as if directly attached to your Pogoplug. We chose email and password authentication to seamlessly enable remote and local access to your Pogoplug attached drives without additional network configuration.
It looks like you may have to try the installing plugapps, as found in other posts on this site, to include Samba support.
