Have had a couple of power outages here. After that Pogoplug does not recognize my hard drive (because presumably it was not ejected properly). Then I've got to disconnect it from the pogoplug, plug it into my computer and use disk utility to "repair" it. I just want plug and play. This is too frustrating to be worth it.

Yep I hear ya. I ended up putting my data on another HD and reformatting to ext3 because of the Pogoplug's HFS+ hate.

I had the same issue since I live in an area with numerous thunderstorm induced outages. I bought a very cheap UPS (<$45) and connected my cable modem, Pogoplug, wireless router and hard drive. The UPS is rated to keep a computer running for only 5-6 minutes but it has kept the above items running for almost an hour when I cut the power. I have had my setup running for over five months without a single down moment.

The newest Pogoplug firmware version does a lot better job of recovering from power outages, but I agree that it's frustrating when it doesn't auto-recover. We are constantly working on improving our filesystem drivers to recover automatically and this will remain a high-priority for us. USB really doesn't like it when a drive is removed without properly ejecting it (such as a power outage), and if the drive was in the middle of a write it can often leave it in an inconsistent state. PC's often do a better job of recovering from this state which is why our support often asks people to insert them back to the PC and run the drive repair. Can you send an email to support@pogoplug.com and we'll help you figure out what's going on with your drive?

How about a simple if statement on boot from the startup? Add the fsck.hfsplus utility and have it so if the drive is detected as uncleanly mounted, run fsck.hfsplus and retry mounting. Seen here (building DiskDev Commands): http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=2346494

Sigh. Had a brief power outage today and it killed the drive attached to my Pogoplug. I've tried just about everything I can to bring it back to life but nothing has worked.

This will be going back to Tiger Direct on Monday :(

Wow, really? :(
Hope you didn't lose anything (especially anything important).

Bryan, contact support@pogoplug.com. They may be able to bring it back to life before you send it back.

well the experiment with pogoplug failed. Anybody else have a rec for a similar product that actually works?
