rest assured, we never touch your original media files. the transcoded video gets stored in the hidden .cedata folder in the root of your drive.

In Media Settings,
"Allow Pogoplug to optimize videos for playback"
does this modify the actual file? I really hope it doesn't
Is there a way for me to pre-transcode the files when I load them on the drive? Or is there a format that doesn't have to be transcoded?
@Billy
In the past, we have had good luck with handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/) converting stream ready video for Pogoplug.
We used the OS X port of Handbrake with the following settings:
-Toggle Preset>iPhone and iPod Touch
-Web-Friendly Checkbox Selected
-H.264 Codec
If you go this route, you probably also want to disable Transcoding in Settings tab>Media Settings to turn off the integrated transcoding; the selection is Never.

@Christopher
Thanks for that info. I have a video production company and one of the main reasons I got the Pogoplug was so that we can put video files on it and immediately have them available for customer review.
I'm going to play around with this option some more and see what I can get out of it.
does the video transcoding only work on one file at a time? What I mean is, if file A is in the process of being transcoded and file B gets uploaded, will B start the process and cancel A's progress? It APPEARS that is what is happening.
