Just wondering if the new Pogoplug was going to be available in any other trim colors besides pink. Personally for my desk and work environment, I'd prefer to have something that doesn't stand out quite so much, like black or white. I'm excited about the features of the new Pogoplug so if it isn't going to be available in other colors I'll still buy it but will plan on spray painting the pink trim to black before I put it on my desk as I really really really don't like pink (no offense to those that do like pink, it's just not for me).  Laughing

I second the vote for more color options! Pink screams too much attention and it doesn't match anything else I have on my desk. I want computer accessories that are black, white, or grey. I don't want it to stand out and scream attention, my office is very professional and I was hoping to put it on top of (not hidden underneath) my desk. Will other color options be available?

@whypink
@Grant

We understand that another color may suit your personal preference or need.

We feel that we have a unique product and we wanted a unique design to match as we begin to create more awareness for the Pogoplug For the time being, the current color will be all that we offer for the foreseeable future. However, it's not out of the question that we would add color choices. Feel free to create a poll for your preferred color.

We hope that you choose to use the Pogoplug anyway and join the terrific Pogoplug community!

I have no idea how to set up a poll, but I would encourage you folks to do so as I think you are making a big mistake here by offering it in pink only.

I'd like to see pogoplug successfully launch the second revision but really feel its a marketing mistake to color it pink and not offer it in black, blue, silver/grey, or white. If 50% of the population are guys, and probably 95% of guys (for better or worse) are taught from a young age that pink is a "girl" color, how many guys out there will want a pink accessory on their desk? I realize that association (pink equates a feminine color) is not 100% accurate or fair but regardless, society has more or less trained people to associate the color pink as being feminine. Walk through a toy department isle in Walmart and it's painfully obvious which isle is targeted for girls based on color alone. Pink is found throughout the doll isle and is completely absent from the toy gun isle. According to Wikipedia (keyword "pink"): "Since the 1940s, the societal norm apparently inverted so that pink became appropriate for girls and blue appropriate for boys, a practice that has continued into the 21st century"

Again, I'd really like to see this be a successful launch but feel you are alienating 50% of your target market simply by the color you chose to wrap the Pogoplug in, and feel it will hurt your sales. If you run a poll or focus group to test the color options, I think you will find the same thing. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I see it anyway. I know that if I buy one of these, the first thing I'm going to do is paint all the pink trim to black. Your product is really neat and innovative, and wish you the best during your launch...but pink???

The pink trim really looks ridiculous. I really think you will lose customers due to this.

Pink sucks. No doubt, you'd sell more if it weren't pink.

What's the saying, pink is the new black? That's the saying, right? It does look good in person though!

Pogoplug v1 "Brick" for life :D (It's not pink.)

There is uniquely good and smart but then there is uniquely out of business.   Didn't someone in marketing do any kind of research about this?  The design was unique, the color choice is simply ******.  I had a couple of friends who had intentions to buy one until they saw what was available, instead they intend to wait or go to a competing product.  You may want to consider carrying the older version as well, if pogoplug understands our personal preference or need then hopefully it'll be addressed soon.  Give the customers what they want.

I completely agree. Well said, they are out of touch and not willing to listen to customer feedback. I'm buying a Chinese knockoff, it's black....and cheaper.

Pink stinks. Hate it. Everything in my office is black, grey, red, or silver. Classic. I hid my PogoPlug behind a shelf.

February 6, 2010 9:53 PM

whypink, link to the Chinese knockoff please...I'm interested :P Everyone else, do what I did...take it apart to get rid of the pink outside. :P Who cares about warranty (it'll be voided).

To be honest I don't like the pink, but that said my V1 pogoplug is way behind my desk and out of sight so it's not a huge deal...

Loll I got the dock star just for that reason, I didn't want it pink ..loll

I actually was about to buy one of these until I realized there was no option to change the color on the website.

It amazes me how arrogant Pogoplug is. They do have a great product, but their insistence on sticking with a repulsive color and not listening to customers is incredible.

February 28, 2010 2:12 PM

Admodieus, just do like I did and hide it behind something. It's still a great product.

February 28, 2010 9:32 PM

I really can't believe people are complaining about the pink. Do you have this sitting on your desk?

February 28, 2010 9:49 PM

I really can't believe Pogoplug aren't listening to people complaining about the pink. It shouldn't matter where it's sitting, people want something that looks classy and professional.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose to make it smaller, with a builtin stand, and multiple usb ports for easy connectivity?  No product company want their product hidden unless it's marketed that way, it's not otherwise they wouldn't show it on top of a desk.  While I like my pogoplug at least it's the older non-pink model, it's out in the open and was a topic of conversation among some of my friends (Pogoplug?  What does it do??).  This isn't a safe, gun, or money items that should be hidden it should be exposed so it's easy to access and make changes as needed.

Calling it an 'awesome' alternative is an understatement...

  • (2x Gb Ethernet, 2 x USB 2.0, 1x eSATA @ 3Gb/s SATAII, 1x MicroSD Slot)
  • Interchangeable US, UK, or Euro Power Adapter
  • USB Cable
  • Ethernet (cat 5) Cable
  • CD Containing Software and Documentations
  • Dimensions: 95mm (L) x 65mm (W) x 48.5 mm (H)
All for $129.00...     the same as PogpPlug

March 2, 2010 1:28 AM

Maybe awesome but it's not availalbe yet.

Pogoplug is and you na get one now, not a "coming soon" product.
