I'm new to the community and to pogoplug. I just purchased my pogoplug about 1-2 weeks ago and am still familiarizing myself with it. I go to the website to look up a few things and I see that there is a new pogoplug out! Should I be concerned with getting a refund on the 1st gen and get a 2nd gen instead? I see it has 3 additional usb ports which mostly rid my need for a USB hub but it is there anything else that is different about the new one? Is there better software or firmware that came out with this? What are your thoughts in general about 1.0 vs 2.0?

The firmware and software updates will be released for both the V1 and V2 Pogoplug, so you don't have to worry about your Pogoplug becoming obsolete :)

Other than the new desktop-type form factor and the additional ports, there aren't any significant usability differences since the new firmware and software will be available on the V1's as well. In fact, the internals are basically the same.

Thank you for your informative response Peter. I'm hung up on this because of the very nice form factor and the additional USB ports (which I'm using a hub for at the moment). Of course, I will be out of my return policy come Dec 25th, 2009 and would also have to wait for this new one to come in, having just waited two weeks for my present one. I think I'm just concerned with the awkward build of the the 1st gen in addition to the lack of additional USB ports. Am I missing anything?

I think that covers it; again, the only real difference is in the number of ports and the form factor.

If it helps, you can easily connect multiple drives using a USB hub :)
