From Help: "Pogoplug offers optional fully encrypted access to your files through the HTTPS protocol. This protocol is the same encryption security that your online banking system uses to protect your account access. A link to the secure website is available on the login page if you access the Web application from a non-encrypted access, or can be accessed directly by entering https://my.pogoplug.com/ in your browser's address bar."

Ok, that's fine for the web interface. What about the Drive Application? Does it use any encryption? Can encryption be turned on with it? Any help? Thanks.

@Bristolview:

I'm running TrueCrypt and also Pogoplug Drive for Windows. I have a 50gig TrueCrypt container on a Pogo connected drive R:, which mounts and unmounts as drive X:.

It's completely usable and nearly as fast as if it was on the local hard drive.

@TRK:

I know this does not address what I think you're looking for which is encryption of the stored file that's been uploaded? (yes, no?)

I'd advise you to encrypt locally before you upload it.

It took me a while to figure this out -- you cannot CREATE a TrueCrypt volume that's over 4 GB while it's connected to PogoPlug.
1. Just connect the USB drive directly to a computer.
2. Then create the extra large TrueCrypt volume from the computer.
3. Then re-connect the USB drive back to PogoPlug and the TrueCrypt volume will work just fine.

Hi,

I am also interested in this answer, since I don't care (nor do I want) the drive encrypted locally.. If I use the "drive letter" software on my computer; what protocol will it be accessing my drive with? And what kind of encryption does it use?

Anyone with info?

Thanks!!

What if the drive uses hardware encryption such as the WD passport drives? Can the PogoPlug access the drive properly?

I couldn't get a straight answer out of pogoplug tech support. They kept quoting me their FAQ which says, "We use http encryption..." I pointed out that http is not encrypted, https is and that they should update their FAQ.

Anyways, I put a sniffer on my network, and the Pogoplug Drive software talks through port 443 while I'm signing into my account, but then only through port 80 (http) after that, so it is a completely unsecure connection for transferring files between my computer and my Cloudstor Pro when I'm using the Pogoplug Drive software.

If I want to have any security when I am uploading/downloading data, I have to use their web interface.
