I just set up my Pogoplug for the first time and dropped a few photos (.jpg) onto it. I can't view a single one via the iphone client - all I get is a blank (black) screen. These were not particularly big, ranging from 76KB - 536KB.

I've seen this issue alluded to in another thread, but I wanted to find out if it is a widespread problem/known issue and if there are any workarounds.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is there some rule or method to make photos more likely to display?

Can you see them on my.pogoplug.com? I would make sure that works to see if it is a problem with the phone or the Pogo firmware.

Yes, I can see them via the web interface just fine. It's only via the iPhone app that I cannot view them.

Wow, that was a fast response! So it appears its a iPhone program problem. I don't use a iPhone so can't help you but I suggest you submit a report at http://support.pogoplug.com/home and see if they can help.

I'm having the same problem - and it seems recent. Prior to yesterday, I could see jpegs on my iPhone. Anything added yesterday and today doesn't show an image - and images that used to work don't work now. Connecting on the web there are no thumbnail views of the same files, but if I click on a file it does open and I can view the image.
Maybe it's the site, and just temporary...?

Jeremy C - I think you are right. I didn't see any thumbnail views yesterday either. I didn't even realize they were missing since it was my first time using the device.

As of right now, I can see the thumbnails via the web interface, thumbnails on the iphone and the images will properly display (almost) full screen on the iphone.

So... problem mysteriously solved. It likely was a temporary Pogoplug service issue since it was affecting multiple users. Until it happens again, I'll consider this as the answer.

I hope your good luck spreads soon. I have the older thumbnails back - but not for anything added to the drive in the last few days. I'll write support.....

the new version of the pogoplug firmware which was pushed yesterday should address the iphone image issues, you may need to eject your drive via the settings page in the web application and re-plug it in and allow the pogoplug to scan your drive, to get the preview images to show up. if that does not work, eject your drive, plug it into your pc, delete the .cedata directory in the root of the drive, and plug the drive back into the pogoplug and allow it some time to scan the drive and generate preview images.

I just got my PogoPlug, installed it, installed my USB drive to it, installed the iPhone app and tried to look at jpgs stored on the USB drive using the iPhone client. Nothing but black screen. Images are about 600KB. What should I do? I wouldn't think I should need to reboot or unplug or reboot as suggested above because I just got mine.

FYI - the photos load fine on my.pogoplug.com

Same problem here. My pogoplug has been plugged in for 2+ days and I would think it would have indexed all of the photos by now. My iphone app just shows black screens for jpgs. I'm on a mac so I'm not sure if there's a .cedata on the disk... is there? If so, How do I find it? I'm not showing the thumbnails on my.pogoplug.com either. The Thumbnails do show up on the desktop app.

I've go the same problem. I've deleted the .cedata and allowed hours to rebuild, and still the same problem. It also seems that many others are having this problem. My pogoplug is absolutely useless to me at this point and no other recourse. Pogoplug people are very aware of this widespread problem, but have no fix. I kind of feel like I got ripped off at this point. Wana buy a pogoplug device for real cheap?

There's a new and improved version of the iPhone app out (in case you haven't already noticed):

This actually sounds like a specific issue, although I totally understand that sometimes it seems like it's widespread. Keep in mind that most of the comments in this thread were made before the new and improved version of the app was released.

We're eager to help and this may be some other issue we're not aware of.

I got my previews (thumbnails) to start working but I had to use msdos. For some reason using apple (mac os) drive format, would not generate thumbnails no matter how many times I reformatted, cleared out the .cedata and rebooted. You should take a look at that format, because mine just would not work. BTW, I tried journaling and non-journaling. MSDos seems to be working so far. Shame I would like to use apple format, as I use a MAC. This problem also lead to the problem with ipod not working because if thumbnails are not present, ipod and Android will do nothing (I have both).

Just wait it out guys. They will appear. Give it like 2-3 days then check on it. Don't use it while it's doing the initial indexing. It works perfectly, but the initial indexing takes time. My mistake was that I thought it was just gonna work instantly. I LOVE it now, but I was confused at first too. run the setup and let it sit.

I have given it a week and still no dice. It goes to display mode but no pictures....I'm really getting sick of all the issues with this thing. Transcoding of video is crap - just buggy. Has anyone tried a different type of device with any luck; this thing may be eBay bound...

Ralph, have you contacted support@pogoplug.com? They should be able to help figure out what's going on.

yes I have - on this, and other issues with streaming. I'm really getting frustrated. The POGO rocked when I first got it. Seems like every time features get added something gets hosed up.

yeah, it just doesn't work for me either, and not lately from the iphone app, all I get is CONNECTION ERROR listed in the picture preview window, but of course I know I am connecting.

Seems to be a little too hard to get working, not a good sign.

April 24, 2010 7:50 AM

+1 "Connection Error"

Images are the only problem I'm having (not tried video streaming yet), playing MP3s and viewing PDFs works great.

Waiting on support to get back to me.

sigh

I just added .jpg pictures to my pogoplug yesterday and I just now tried to look at them on my iPhone app and it works fine. I have no idea how long it took them to transcode since I don't use the iPhone app all that often.

The problem was that the transcoding/indexes/thumbnailing stalled on 1 file which I didn't notice for about 3 hours.

I clicked "stop" in media settings and suddenly in burst into life.  A few hours later I no longer had connection errors.

I'm happy now ;-)

Has anyone had any luck getting TIF files to display on the IPhone? I know they are not supported yet but wondering if anyone found a work around?

thanks
