joe, what happens when you eject the drive from settings, and unplug the drive, and then plug it back in? do they show up properly?
Categories: Pogoplug Classic
I was just trying to organize my files by moving them around inside the pogoplug. After I moved the files, I check the files in their new folder and they are all size zero. I tried it from the Mac and PC pogo software with the same result. Does any one know this is a known bug? Joe
I am having the same problem. I also formatted as HFS+ I haven't had a chance to unplug the drive to try that. However, it only seems to happen with Drag and Drops. I don't seem to have that problem when I do an rsync in a Tcsh..
It also seems that if I copy the file to a different folder it copies over fine, but when I try to drag the file back into the destination folder it errors out. I ended up having to rename the destination folder, delete it, recreate it, then move the file over, and then I thought it worked, but when I went into the folder, the file was zero bytes again..
I tried copying another file over, it worked fine. The problem file in question is a .rar compressed file. Not sure if that makes a difference.
Hope that helps a bit.
I tried Cut and Paste a file. After paste, the file is completely gone, not even with size zero.
I ejected the disk and power cycle the pogoplug as suggested. The files are all coming back with their respective content. No more zero length files. However now it looks like it's mounted as read only mode. I can't write anything to it. Anyway, I am going to backup everything before going any further now.
I just move some files with NTFS filesystem this time. And everything moved fine. So maybe it's a bug only with HFS+.
yes we are tracking an issue with moves between folders on hfs partitions. however ejecting the drive and plugging it back in seems to fix everything. did you eject the drive from the web application's settings page before you unplugged the drive? if not, this is why it mounted in read-only mode.
I ejected the drive from the web application. Then I powered down everything, pogoplug and USB HD. And then I powered up everything. I then went in from the web application again. And it said it's mounted read only. Saying something about check help to disable Journaled mode.
I am having the exact same problem as SA3. I think I'll be sending an e-mail to tech support since I keep having all sorts of problems even though I've reformatted the drive a few times.
I can get things to work well for a little bit and then I start having problems copying files (permission errors) or moving folders around within the Pogoplug (files disappear, folder sizes go to 0 KB).
Latest is that is says I have to disable journaling to get the drive to mount r/w.
I'm also having the same problem. I tried ejecting the drive from the web, and powered everything down. Now my Drobo is read only, and I can't seem to fix it. Please help! Sounds like it may be problems with HFS+? Also, I tried to find a way to disable journalling and I couldn't figure it out. When I click help it takes me to the web page on PogoPlug that only gives you a few basic options, and nothing tech support related.. Any ideas? Oh, and one more thing. My drobo doesn't show up in the Disk Utility (Mac OS X) so I can't even see what it's saying about journaling..
Confirmed reproducible problem - as soon as I move a file or folder from a sub-folder to the top level of the HD is gets erased or, in the case of folders, everything in it gets erased. The files are definitely totally gone - they are still missing even if I connect the drive directly to the computer.
So, whatever you do when you start having problems, don't start moving files around on the HD via the pogoplug.
Here's some more info that I find out. If the files shows up as zero size, you can power cycle the pogoplug and recover those files. However, if the file is gone after you move it, it's gone forever. It won't recover after you power cycle. I have switched to NTFS instead of HFS+ since. And I do not have this problem in NTFS.
I ran into the same problem with an HFS+ formatted drive. I was just trying to organize some files, and it looks very likely that I may have lost years of work thanks to this issue. I'm going to end up spending hours going through all the DVDs I have some of this data backed up on, but much of it is probably lost forever. I'm hoping Data Rescue can recover it. I don't know if I'll end up using a formatted NTFS drive or if I no longer will trust using the Pogoplug. I can't afford to lose such valuable data.
this issue is addressed by the latest version of the pogoplug firmware which was pushed to pogoplugs yesterday
you may need to eject your drive via the settings page in the web application and re-plug it in
Does this address the Read-Only problem as well? If it addresses both issues, then I'll re-format my drive back to HFS+ cause I'd rather have 1 large volume than 3 smaller ones (my current limitation using NTFS).
read-only occurs when a drive is not properly ejected before being pulled out of the pogoplug, or some other lower-level error occurs (eg. not enough power being supplied to a usb device, etc). read-only simply means the pogoplug recognized the format of the drive and was able to mount it, but not able to write to it. in the case of journaled hfs+ drives, the pogoplug should be able to write to it unless it has been flagged "dirty" by pulling the drive out from your mac or your pogoplug without ejecting properly. to fix the dirty flag simply plug it into your mac and use the disk utility to "verify" the drive, eject the drive from finder, and only then unplug it and re-attach it to the pogoplug. if this does not address your issue, you should send a request to support@pogoplug.com and they can help you dig into the problem on an 1-on-1 basis.
Okay. I'm reformatting once again back to HFS+..I'm going on faith that both the zero file issue and the Read-Only problem are now gone. If the Read-Only problem pops up again, then I'll contact support directly.
Thanks much.
thanks for your patience, and do contact us immediately if you have further issues.
I've had some zero file length problems on my Linux box as well, but put it on the back burner, thinking I had done something. You might want to look at your ext3 support as well.

Oh, I forgot to mention. The filesystem I am using is HFS+ if that makes a difference.
