It sounds like you've done the right thing in terms of repairing permissions, etc. If I were you, I would try reformatting the drive if it isn't too much of a hassle and you don't stand to lose any data, just to see if it works. Beyond that, if you continue to get the same issue, please post your experience so someone from Cloud Engines (or a member with the same issue) can help you further!

Hi,
I just got my pogoplug and so far have had nothing but troubles with permissions errors. I'm using an intel macbook with 10.5.8. My pogoplug is connected to a 500gb western digital drive in a ThermalTake USB enclosure.
When I upload/download single files with the web interface, it works fine - but I want to upload entire folders.
When I use finder to drag/drop folders into a folder in the pogoplug I get some of the files copied, then always at some point before finishing, I get permissions error -36.
I've repaired permissions on my macbook drive as well as manually adjusted the permissions on the folders on the pogoplug drive (I connected the drive directly to my macbook, then right-click>info>read/write for all). These adjustments didn't fix it.
Can anyone help me? I'm fine reformatting the drive if it will fix the problem. Any advice is helpful. . .
Thanks
John
hi there, please send a support request to support@pogoplug.com. they should be able to help you track down your issue.
i have also noticed that finder in 10.5.8 doesn't like copying files with an extended attribute of com.vmware.backupReenabled=1 to the pogoplug. we are investigating this further. do you know on which file it fails? if so, open a terminal window on your mac and run this command on the file to see its extended attributes:
xattr -l filename
Thanks for your help and suggestions. I found the problem.
My drive was formatted as a Master Boot. I'd previously done this for reasons I don't recall.
The solutions was that I used Disk Utility to reformat and create one partition of the type "Apple Partition" instead of "Master Boot Record."
And now, so far, all is working perfectly. . .
Thanks again,
John
interesting, well i'm glad you got it working, and thanks for sharing your findings.

Is your solution still working? No further problems with Permissions?
I am having the same problem as you did
In my case, for my drive I just did a simple reformat with Diskutility. I did not create a single partition and select a specific partition type (in your solution, Apple Partition). I thought I had it licked but the problem came back. I just repaired my drive with Diskutility.
Okay, I'm all of a sudden getting the -36 permission error. I was having absolutely no problems all day long. I was copying and moving files on my Drobo through the PogoPlug all day, then suddenly I started getting this error (randomly I may add) on some .jpg images trying to copy them over. The only thing I can think of is that I upgraded to Snow Lepoard. Perhaps this is related?
Any Ideas? I tried repairing permissions on my Mac. No good.
Fact: Pogo does not like files without a suffix and/or files that are named with a space being the first character in the file name (a non character)
Still, no answers to my question above.
I wish I could give you a better answer, but. . .
I got a job transfer and my pogoplug is in a different city. I haven't been using it so I can't confirm that my fix worked for longer than a couple of uses.
I used non-journled.
Thanks,
John
This -36 permissions error is a real bummer. I thought I had narrowed it down to .doc and .webloc file types but there are possibly others. Files uploaded to Pogoplug via Active Copy seem OK (but are soooo slow) files moved via drag and drop are the ones that are a problem for me. I sent some of the problem files to support they say that they had no problems copying them across, they obviously don't have their Sharing & Permissions fixed on "Custom Access"!
I've had this problem for a while, and have opened several support tickets on the issue. I thought at first it was the latest build of the Mac drive app (seems to be something with it only), but I'm having trouble with it on version 2.0.3. I did notice that the problem happens more often when you are trying to do more than one operation at the same time (either multiple copies, or one copy an a rename). It also happens with either an rsync command copy or a drag and drop. I've still haven't been able to nail it down. It's very frustrating cause I rely on doing high volume copies all the time (lots of music files), that I backup to it...if anyone has any insight, it would be most appreciated!
BTW, this problem is with files that do have a suffix, so I don't think that's the issue.
I've been in a long stream of contact about permissions errors, error -36, and constant boot partition corruption. Pogo has been very responsive so far. I'm hoping for the best. If enough of us endure a few issues, they'll get it figured out and fixed. I personally am banking on this thing for my business so I'm anxious to get them ironed out.
Strangely enough, I had this issue briefly today. It had never happened before. I unhooked the drive, ran a quick repair on Disk Utility, and it's working fine now. Not sure if it was the drive or what, but it appears I had an easy fix.
I've been having the same problem. permission issues. I had my PP for over past 6 months and although I had this problem before it quickly went away. But now it became so persistent that it's annoying. I do hope this get's figured out. I thought I was the only one having this problem.
Here's what may be another instance, or perhaps a symptom, or perhaps just a clue. On my Macbook, Spotlight cannot search files on my pogoplugged drives. When the same drive is connected directly to the Mac it works fine, and even updates the indexing stored under .Spotlight-V100. There is a way to force Spotlight to reindex the drive, and that, according to the Apple support site, is to drag the drive into the Privacy panel of the Spotlight preferences, then remove it. When I try to do this I cannot drag it in because it says "Privacy List Error. This item could not be added or removed because of an unknown error." Get Info (from the Devices section of Finder) shows "You have custom access" in the permissions section. I *think* that's why the .Spotlight-V100 isn't updated, but since I cannot tell what the permissions actually are, or for that matter what user ID the pogo's running.... I'm sort of stuck...
I'm sad to say that I've had to find another solution as there seemed to be none to mine. I feel pogoplug is by far the most superior plug on the market but basic functionality issues became my show-stopper. I never did find an answer but I'm subscribed to this feed and I still have my pogo. If anyone finds a fix, please reply as I'm most anxious to use my pogo again!
Wow. I'm running into the same issues here. Real drag. Pogoplug...refund time? I'm going to have to buy another product because I can't get yours to work.
My Pogoplug drive worked fine yesterday but today I'm having permission issues. I made a new Pages doc, saved it to the drive, then amended the doc and tried to "Save As" a different name and it's giving me a message saying I don't have permission.
I'm having similar problems.
In my case, PogoPlug is causing directory errors to a partition on the drive I attached to it. This is causing me to be unable to modify files or copy files to the partition. It gives me an error message that I don't have enough permission.
My hard drive partitions are formatted with the Mac OS X (Journaled) file system. I use Mac OS X 10.6.4 Snow Leopard.
I'm working with PogoPlug Support to try and find out what is happening.
Just got my Pogoplug this morning, formatted a USB drive as non-journaled on my Mac, connected to Pogoplug, tried to copy a folder over, getting the -36 error.
Ability to use Pogoplug at this time is Zero.
@Threlly - This might sound redundant and perhaps a bit silly, but I'd re-format the drive and run Disk Utility, reboot your Mac and Pogoplug, and reconnect. I was getting the -36 issue yesterday, actually, and a quick run through **** Utility fixed the issue.
I can't explain why it was happening on a freshly formatted drive, though. If you continue to get the issue on a newly formatted drive, contact Pogoplug support.
I've recently purchased a pogoplug and a brand new 1TB Western Digital Drive. At first I tried the native format (NTFS) and it gave me a -36 error. Then I thought that because the pogoplug runs linux it would only be right to use the EXT 3 format, still nothing. As a last resort I used the HFS+ non-journaled. Nothing, then I tried further testing of HFS+ including Journaling, non-journaling, case sensitivity(which really shouldn't have anything to do with permissions), I also messed with the partition table. I used Apple Partition Scheme, Master Boot Record, and GUID. Still nothing.
The very last thing I did was added the "Everyone" group to the drive and gave them "Read/Write" permissions and it still wouldn't let me copy anything to the drive.
Keep in mind, every test I tried I went through the process of repairing permissions, rebooting my mac, and rebooting the pogoplug each time.
I am now in the process of exchanging my pogoplug with a new one. maybe it was defective?
