Are we ever going to get Upnp?

**Other sheevaplug products are now being advertised as being upnp compatible**

This is a deal breaker for me (I like my 360 and the whole point of a pogoplug for me is to avoid having a power-hungry computer on all the time).

I'd much prefer to buy a pogoplug as I've been following them for some time now, but can we get a straight answer on the status of upnp?

Long time ago they had said that UPNP support was in the works. But that was back in May and I have not heard anything since then. I would also like to know a definite time frame in which we could expect the feature to be there.

Tonidoplug now states that they are Upnp (although beta, basically using an openpogo type development). For the same $100, and no annual fee. Is there any reason pogoplug is not? Is there any advantage to pogoplug vs tonido that I am missing?

I want to get one of these products in the next few days. I always thought it would be pogoplug, but upnp is a dealbreaker. Can we get an update?

Just looked at the tonidoplug website. They seem to be a lot farther along in user interface development. Seem to have a better search feature, apps dedicated to features we've been asking for here. The only obvious things I don't see there are HFS+ support, and they currently don't have an Iphone app (however, our Iphone app seems to lack features, and isn't very reliable). Although, I think they do have web access that is formatted to the Iphone. Unless I see some serious improvement on the pogoplug soon, I might consider switching.

Pogoplug support has been great. They've been very responsive, and helpful. My complaint is the lack of communication CloudEngine seems to have with the forum. Several users have been asking about important features/issues re: the plug, and we haven't heard much of any response re: them. I don't expect CloudEngines to respond to every post, however, a general update as to their status on what they are doing (including bug fixes, and features) would probably help...

+1 for updates on progress.

As for UPNP, OpenPogo is (finally) getting around to hacking it onto the Pogoplug. I know, it's a hack. I know, it's not pretty. Heck, it might not even work since I don't have a PS3 or anything else to test it with.

But it's a start.

I've got no idea on how to add files to it or anything else. Keep requesting UPNP and other features. Let them know.

Hey Folks,
@dirtyharry2 & ACD - UPnP is a feature set we'd got in our sights but not in the immediate future. If you're holding off buying a Pogoplug because you're hoping that UPnP is just around the corner, I'd say the folks at OpenPogo are your best bet for the time being. They've been adding some very useful functionality Pogoplug, and we're totally thrilled that they continue to pump out good stuff.

@begunfx - definitely something we'd like to improve, always being mindful to tread the line between informing and overpromising, and with a careful eye to protect any confidential information. I don't have any plans that I can share at the moment but it is my intention to have some way of informing interested parties about the features in near-term development, possibly through a beta program.

As an aside, I hope some of the work we've done over the past few months is reflected in stability and bug fixes (as well as social networking integration, adding slideshow view and our partnership with Seagate). We are constantly working at bug fixes, and if I see a bug mentioned on the forum that I think is fixed in any given build I will surely respond to it. Thanks guys!

Kinda just as a 3rd-party addition from OpenPogo to the above update on progress from CloudEngines...OpenPogo is working on making it less of a pain to install apps and services in order to make it more user-friendly and less of a burden to set up. More on that in the future though. For now, SSH is the only way to get it working. It's not pretty, but we still have no cases of a user breaking their plug or even having trouble with it afterwards. Sure it's a hack, but it gets the job done for now.

Hey folks

Support for PS3 and Xbox360 via UPnP was announced at CES this year, but the feature is not yet available. We are planning a software release in March but right now we don't have that feature in our firwmare. We are still signing up beta testers for it, so please email beta@pogoplug.com if you are interested in getting an early peek.

Wow that sounds great I have a PS3 and just ordered my pogoplug yesterday since it is now avaiable in Germany as well. Still some seats left in the BETA? I already wrote a mail to that adress above.

Cheers Martin

I am waiting patiently :) I have had my Pogoplug since X-Mas and love it. the only thing missing is being able to stream to my XBOX I have to keep my computer on 24/7 right now. 600W power supply compared to 5W for Pogoplug....
I've tried the openpogo route but I'm not familiar with all the linux stuff. Give me a GUI :)

That's great!
Does this mean that other set top boxes will be able to recognize and stream from the pogoplug? The Western Digital TV Live HD for example?

Or is it strictly PS3 and 360?

Mr. Jon.QA - what's the word with Pogoplug, UPnP and Boxee? If you need a beta tester, I'm your man.

@Thomas - PS3 and Xbox360 are the two systems we officially tested; there's a good chance that most UPnP clients will work. I can't speak to the specific one you mentioned, I'm afraid.

@foodman - Boxee should work just fine - we had at least one beta tester using it.

UPnP works fine on XBMC, so I think it should work fine on Boxee.
