You could download them via my.pogoplug or run the pogoplug drive program and view them that way. Have you tried either of these two?
Why can't I view PDF files in Safari?
Why can't I just preview them in my browser like the other files?
I know I can download them or run the pogoplug drive, but if I have lots of files I'd like to preview them before I download. Why the extra step?
One other thing, let's say I'm sharing tons of PDF files (which will occur after time) if I'm sharing folders with another computer, the other user will search to view the pdf files in his browser and may not want to download the pogoplug drive on his computer. He will not be able to just take a preview look at the file he wishes to download, instead he's going to have to download each to find out what's in that file. Wouldn't it make sense to have the ability to preview pdf files just as you can with other file?
amigo97 - I understand what you're getting at, but this feature seems like it would be a "fringe" case - I think that many people are used to downloading PDF's and viewing them without a preview, and I'm betting that most users wouldn't be sharing large amounts of PDF's.
As far as I know, pretty much every browser (including Safari) allows you to "preview" the PDF within a browser tab. That does require you to download the file, though.
Basically, what you're asking for is a "Quick Look" type feature for the My.Pogoplug website, that would allow you to read the PDF (or a portion of it) before downloading. That would be a cool feature, but the My.Pogoplug web based client doesn't do this. I'm thinking it would slow down the client quite a bit, much more so than a picture preview, but I could be wrong.
Interestingly, the iPhone Pogoplug client has this (sort-of) built-in. I just tried it and indeed, I was able to read the PDF before "downloading" it to my phone.
(On a side note, I'm moving this to the "feature requests" forum.)
While your at it, you may also suggest the ability to preview MS powerpoint, word and excel files, thank you. Incorporating these and other features places "pogoplug" up there with the big boys.
You would be better off just sharing these files using RSS. That way when the ones you share the files with want to look at them the RSS page works just like any other webpage. They don't need to use the my.Pogoplug site too.
Also if you want to create your own website or blog that shows these files you can use RSS and make it look very seamless.
