I don't know for sure but the hub I use is powered and works just fine. If you can I would recommend a powered one.
I have two hard drives connected to a NON POWERED hub, but they don't seem to populate, or even show up.
However they will show up if connected directly to the Pogoplug.
Does anyone know if the Hub needs to be powered?
I figured I'd ask before I head back to the store..
Thanks..
Yeah, I think that's the problem. In my documentation for the hub, it says that it turns off if it detects low power or no power coming in. I would imagine that the Pogoplug doesn't have any power coming off it and through the hub.
However that would mean that I couldn't use a USB Thumb drive??? Now I'm really confused..
Personally I think it's a good idea to use a powered hub, but it isn't strictly necessary. I have an unpowered hub here, with a Seagate FreeAgent, a Drobo and a little 2 GB thumb drive attached, and I haven't had any power problems.
The Pogoplug puts out 1.5A, so if you're under that amount you should be fine. For me, the Seagate is powered off the hub (and obviously the thumb), but the Drobo has its own power supply.
You may have a hub that needs to be powered, or the power required by both drives + the hub may exceed the juice we can provide. I'd probably try a different hub, but can you tell me the make and model of the hub you're trying to use, as well as the drives?
I switched it out for another "un-powered" USB hub that I was using on our Wii, and it works fine. But so does the one I bought for the PogoPlug that's now on the Wii (but still doesn't work on the PogoPlug). Its a Gigabit that I bought at Radio Shack. The one that was on our Wii came with RockBand.
Anyway, it all works now.. Don't understand why, but who has time for why?
Thanks..
