Just wondering before I get my Pogoplug, does it run Ubuntu? SheevaPlug development kits supposedly do - just wondering!

I don't think so... It looks like it runs it's own Linux Distro. The sheevaPlug DEV kits runs ubuntu.

FYI, pogoplug compared to DEV kit has half the memory, no sd slot and no mini usb. But i'm still keeping my pogoplug due to the good software clients on windows/linux/iphone and very small linux footprint at 10Mb... so you can install other software on the roughly 450Mb of flash still available out of 512Mb of the pogoplug.

Out of curiosity, are the missing memory, mini-USB connector, and SD card slot merely depopulated, or does the Pogoplug use a different PCB, i.e., a production vs. development board?

Rob,

AFAIK, SD card and mini-USB are depopulated. Memory, I'm not sure. It probably is 256Mb.

As for the miniUSB, was the impression that this is not a "real" USB, but a connector for the serial port. Anybody can vouch for his?

Thanks very much for the technical information. I have ordered a Sheevaplug Dev kit and was wondering what's the difference between the two. Sadly I won't be able to run the nice software that you guys have.

I have disassembled my pogo-plug v2 and noticed that there is 2 depopulated components. a transformer/power regulator (part code is 431 and location code is Q3) and some sort of 8 pin IC. also has a horizontal J-tag port and a 4 pin communications port labeled com2 (though i have yet to find com 1) which is likely used in the new v3 Pogo-plug or the pro v2 pogo-plug. the board also has a reset switch that is inaccessible when assembled.

power supply resembles for Mini-ITX motherboards sans a few resistors (location codes R2 and R7)

hope some of this info will be of assistance to anyone modding, hacking, or developing for one of the v2 pogo-plugs!
