It's got to be an FAQ?

There doesn't seem to be anything out there that can do this (Drogoshare doesn't).

Is there a guide somewhere on adding USB Wifi adapter?

Hey J,

Do you mean directly to either your drive or to your Pogoplug? I'm not aware of anyone doing that...using a Wifi-enabled router or hub would work (physically plug into the router/hub).

Well, basically what I want is a wireless hard drive.

Thing is, wifi routers tend to add quite a bit of size, and another wall socket needed too.

Perhaps a differetn embedded system of some sort?

Ah...so it sounds like you want some device that acts as a wireless router, but is embedded in some other device - like maybe a cheaper (or PC) version of Time capsule?

Somewhere along the chain you'll have to plug something into the wall to get at your internet connection, so you'll need some kind of wireless access point - but there are definitely devices out there that combine storage and routers. I like Tom's Hardware (http://www.tomshardware.com) for reviews personally...I've never personally used one, but there a few of them out there.

Why does it have to be the internet? Why not an intrAnet or local network, or mesh network

In fact, I mainly just wanted to share it to all the laptops in the vicinity.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out

This is my setup now. Basically 2 HDDs into a hub, into the Pogo, into my Netgear WNR834b. It's a little slow to respond and if I'm doing any transfers that are large or where data corruption would really f-things up, I connect via my USB extender cable or ethernet.

HP V6000, MBP Unibody 17" 2.93+4GB+AntiGlare, Slingbox ProHD, Netgear WNR834b.V2 Router, SA 8300HDC, Pana TH-42PX500U, PS3, Kylin IPTV, SlinkLink, 2TB WD MyBook(1TB RAID), 160 ExtHDD, SMC 10/100 switch, PogoPlug (duh)

It has to connect to the Internet because at right now, the logic of our service lives on our webserver. You are correct that technically is seems feasible to offer some connectivity without our webservices (development would be required for that). In fact there is already a feature request for "lemme use this like a NAS (or wireless NAS) on my LAN when I'm not on the Internet, and I'll note that yours is another voice asking for it.

jFiveNYC - seems like a wise choice to go direct when you have lots of data to move. When local (where the Pogoplug is using your LAN to transfer data, not going up to and down from the server) I've been able to move a 4 GB file, as well as several thousand small files without a hiccup, but I like to be tethered for a very large transfer.
