I found out today a very useful tip for using my Pogoplug.  I had a 500GB external hard drive that I am using for file storage and also to store my music collection, that I want to use with my Pogo.  It was currently in the HFS+ Journaled format and I really, really didn't want to reformat it.

You don't seem to get a "disable journaling" option in Disk Utility when selecting the drive.

I discovered today that if you hold the "Option" key while clicking on the File menu item (assuming you have the drive highlighted) you will get a "Disable Journaling" option.  This enables you to use the previously journaled drive with your Pogoplug, no formatting needed!

Also, sometimes that may not appear. (Like for me) I had to go into a terminal and do:

sudo su -
(then type in your password)
open /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app

Well, when I try that, the only option is to "Enable Journaling", which is greyed out. Pogo says that I actually am in Journaling mode, but that's not what my Mac says.

I'm using a Western Book 1tb drive on the latest Mac Mini.

Help, please!

Thanks,

JD

Hey folks - just in case you didn't know - the latest firmware update (we push those automatically) now supports Journaling, so this problem should have gone away (as you can used Journaled drives).

Hope that's helpful!

Doesn't work. Have 1.0.0.17. "Permission" problem every day. Told to reconnect to Mac and repair the drive. Big pain moving a USB drive from one room to another when you've tucked all the wires in back of a shelf. Save yourself the heartache. Use FAT32. No issues whatsoever. Not slower either.

Please contact Pogoplug support so we can document your issue. If you've already done so, apologies in advance.

Bigger pain: driving 30 miles where Pogo is used for off site data storage. These recurring permission issues are causing me to rethink use of my several Pogos for remote storage. Bad Pogo, Bad!
