Please add ps3 support. I admit I thought it would already work before I purchased :(
Not sure how many of the actual early adopters are xbox360 or Ps3 owners but I happen to one of them and it would be great if I could access music, video and photos from my pogoplug (kinda the reason i bought it). So here's hoping someones working on this.
mannn would love it to work on PS3. at least would love to get the product first. damn backorder
Ok so after openpogo.com has launched I have installed Ushare and can share video and pictures to my 360 or ps3 which is borderline amazing so finally my product does everything I wanted it to do, I havent been to get music streaming from pogoplug to 360 or ps3, but I can honestly live without it. Still trying to figure it out though, guess I'll keep you guys posted.
Don't have either a PS3 or Xbox 360, but how does it connect, Samba, iTunes streaming? Give me a link to a place that shows you how to stream from a Linux computer to either Xbox 360 or PS3 and I'll try to get it working on the Pogoplug.
Hi, i have been seriously trying to get streaming support for PS3, but no luck. Can someone write up step by step procedure to do so?
BTW just found out TonidoPlug that has native support for PS3 and XBOX

Sure I can give you some help since I'm the person that started this forsaken thread, but yea I've gotten ushare set up and rinning on xbox360 and PS3, you need to go throug the initial openpogo install then I an help you from there if you let me know where you are stuck, my replies should be pretty fast, one thing I will say though after fully setting it up, I have been unable to hve ushare detect new media added and only way to get it detected is to reboot the entire pogoplug from /sbin, outside of that it works great, wish I could figure out why I can't access web interface though but oh well lol.

Smonme Hello, Yes I installed the openpogobase package, Samba and Firefly, the later two I believe I can uninstall. thanks for the help...
not sure if my guide is any good, if it is maybe I'll get asked to submit it, but let me know if you obtain success.
Note This Guide Was Made Accessing Pogoplug Via Terminal On MacOSX
1. SSH Into The Pogoplug till you see bash-3.2#
2. Type "/opt/bin/ipkg install nano ushare - 1.1a-2"
*** For the rest of the guide please note anything in quotations is to be type WITHOUT the actual quotations. ***
3. You'll see a bunch of stuff installing then when you are able to, Type "/opt/bin/nano /opt/etc/ushare.conf"
4. You'll want to edit your config to look something like this.
# /etc/ushare.conf
# Configuration file for uShare
# uShare UPnP Friendly Name (default is 'uShare').
USHARE_NAME=Media
# Interface to listen to (default is eth0).
# Ex : USHARE_IFACE=eth1
USHARE_IFACE=
# Port to listen to (default is random from IANA Dynamic Ports range)
# Ex : USHARE_PORT=49200
USHARE_PORT=49200
# Port to listen for Telnet connections
# Ex : USHARE_TELNET_PORT=1337
USHARE_TELNET_PORT=
# Directories to be shared (space or CSV list).
# Ex: USHARE_DIR=/dir1,/dir2
USHARE_DIR=/tmp/.cemnt/mnt_sda1
# Use to override what happens when iconv fails to parse a file name.
# The default uShare behaviour is to not add the entry in the media list
# This option overrides that behaviour and adds the non-iconv'ed string into
# the media list, with the assumption that the renderer will be able to
# handle it. Devices like Noxon 2 have no problem with strings being passed
# as is. (Umlauts for all!)
#
# Options are TRUE/YES/1 for override and anything else for default behaviour
USHARE_OVERRIDE_ICONV_ERR=
# Enable Web interface (yes/no)
ENABLE_WEB=yes
# Enable Telnet control interface (yes/no)
ENABLE_TELNET=
# Use XboX 360 compatibility mode (yes/no)
# ENABLE_XBOX=yes
USHARE_ENABLE_XBOX=yes
# Use DLNA profile (yes/no)
# This is needed for PlayStation3 to work (among other devices)
ENABLE_DLNA=yes
*** You can use another directory for your movies if you don't feel the need to enable the entire drive to share, but I'm lazy and thats how i set mine up :) ***
5. Once you have your config looking like that, press Control + X
6. Make sure you have enabled UPNP on your router settings not doing this step may make streaming not work at all.
7. Type "/sbin/reboot" this will reboot your pogoplug (MANDATORY STEP).
8. SSH back into your pogoplug till you see bash-3.2#
9. Type "/opt/etc/init.d/S99ushare start" (You'll see a message saying ushare starting, time to cross your fingers)
10. Attempt to go to "http://[Insert Pogoplug IP here]:49200/web/ushare.html"
*** You should now see Ushare UPNP A/V Media Server Information Page, this is a good thing, if you can't see this page it's not the end of the world, I only recently got mine working. It may also take up to 30 minutes for ushare to start streaming after initial reboot depending on how many files you have on your Pogoplug due to indexing, If you have a lot of files take this time to watch the paint dry ***
11. Turn on Xbox360 Or PS3 and you should be able to now see "MEDIA" as the drive streaming whatever you have on the drive. Note you may have named your drive different, if you did then thats what you see there. Like I said you MAY not see the drive depending if you decided to be a little patient after initial reboot, though it should be instantly.
Smonme Hi, I get an error when running the install. Here's the log...

I must confess, I used ms word to edit the file. I also used FileZilla to download the config file first, then use Word to edit it, save it back, and then upload the file back to /opt/etc folder.

Is there a way to PM?

Aah Danka!
Is there way you can run terminal? Because I feel like you tried to just copy and paste my config into Ms. Word edit and then upload? If that's what you did I would suggest starting over
As a reminder the PM only works if the member has it turned on. If he/she elects to not receive PMs you will not see the icon.

OK I finally got it working! The PS3 can now see all my media files. Pictures and mpeg home videos play fine. There are a few quirks though... not in any particular order:
1. Not sure how I can display an icon for the PogoPlugMediaServer in the PS3. What it displays is the generic bland icon.
2. I have ripped all my DVDs into the hard drive connected to the PogoPlug. The ripped files (.IFO, .VOB) come up as "unsupported data".
3. I have ripped all my Audio CD's as mp3's encoded in apple lossless format (.m4a). they do not play either. When I try to play them they come up as "The data type is unsupported"
4. When i stop the server using the command "/opt/etc/init.d/ushare stop" this does not really stop the server. With WinMediaPlayer or ORB media servers, when you stop the server, the corresponding icon goes away in the PS3 immediately.
5. I am a Windows guy and don't like the name of the mnt_sda1 folder. Can we rename that? I am a bit hesitant to try doing that, it might break things... "If it ain't broken don't try to fix it" is my motto... :)
OK so issue # 5 was easily resolved by changing the ushare.conf file
# Directories to be shared (space or CSV list).
# Ex: USHARE_DIR=/dir1,/dir2
# USHARE_DIR=/tmp/.cemnt/mnt_sda1
USHARE_DIR=/tmp/.cemnt/mnt_sda1/Media
That was easy... the other issues remain, most importantly the ability to identify and play ripped audio and video files. I also noticed it played .avi and .mov files without any issues. However aac encoded .m4a files and .IFO and .VOB files were identified as unsupported data.
Smonme/Crimsoneredmk... any help?
Glad you were able to get that issue resolved, as far asissue 1 goes, as far as I know the icon is more orless stuck to look like that. With issue 2 concerning .vob I'm going to try obtaining some files and see what happens (I use .avi) I haven't tried .mkv either so I'll try both today. I haven't been able to get any audio streamed using my xbox but my ps3 plays the music just fine, as far as stopping ushare goes, i ve only been to stop it using reboot to reboot entire pogoplug but you can try using the web app if you trying to refresh new media shares. Hope I was of some help, its hard typing on this forum with my palm pre lol.

Thanks for all the help... Ya I am a Blackberry user, and can type only small messages myself... Again... thanks much... If i cannot get this to work soon, I am going ahead with Tonido... they support PS3 natively... But so far I have had no issues with my Pogo... well other than the 4 items above, of which 2 are critical.
Try MediaTomb. ipkg install mediatomb
Sorry, that's pretty much all I can say. I don't have a PS3 or Xbox 360 and therefore I can't replicate any of the problems.
But, MediaTomb works well:
"I tried mediatomb and all was well. One thing to note is that all this DLNA stuff requires a multicast network address set up on your linux box. Mediatomb does this for you, but you need to edit /etc/defaults/mediatomb to enable it as described in the manual. Otherwise, it will run but your PS3 won't see it.
Read more: http://www.ps3news.com/forums/ps3-linux-news/dlna-media-server-linux-ps3-stre...
TBH, I don't know what multicast IPs are either.
