Hello,

Very new here and to PogoPlug, which seems as a promising product.

BUT before buing and plugging all my valuable data into one of those I really need to know more about security issues...

When reading the site why I should use this product, it says it is easy to share data. But what about keeping the data to myself, but just making it more mobile? THIS is a feature that should be promoted more on the site, IF it is a feature...

So my question is, how do I keep other people away from my data, and how is the security system built?

I dont have a PogoPlug yet, so I guess I cant login to my.pogoplug.com to see for myself...

PS. Also when I visit my.pogoplug.com with Google Chrome *yay* I get a message that this browser is not supported, although the website states it is... DS...

Thanks in advance, and as I said before, it seems to be a very promising product for me, but I want my privacy and security... I dont want all my fabulous projects and ideas in the wrong hands... ;)

Cheers!

/Kristian

Sourcery,
If you want to keep everything to yourself don't bother with the my.pogoplug website after you have registered your pogoplug.
Just install the pogoplug drive software on your laptop or whatever you use and treat is as another hard drive. You will have no problems with security.

Hello Brandon,

Thanks for your reply,

However, while wanting to keep everything to myself, I also like the fundamental idea of the pogoplug to be able to reach my data from anywhere... So I still want to use the Pogoplugs sharing ability, but "only with myself"... :) Hope you understand, I mean in reality it is not the person that defines who to share with, but the computer, so I DO want to share with other computers on the web, its just that I should be the one in front of them :)

So the question remains how does the security work for pogoplug?

I login to pogoplug with my username and password, and thats it? Then I have access to my pogoplug full on? I can live with this if this is the case, but how about if someone hacks the site? How safe is it?

Thanks again,

/Kristian

Does anyone know if the connection via web browser or client installed drive software is encrypted between the client and the pogoplug?

Have the same questions. Before I buy I would love to know how secure this is? Any new information on this?

I'm guessing that since Pogoplug uses a proprietary daemon to connect to the web and show files, one would need to gain access through the Pogoplug service, which AFAIK is only done by using a username and password. The Pogoplug doesn't fun other services which could be hacked, AFAIK.

Why has this question not been answered yet? It seems like it is a fundamental concern.

I'm concerned about the security of Pogo Plug, and I will not buy one until I'm convinced that my data cannot be accessed via the internet. When will we finally get a response from Cloud Engines, Inc? Maybe they don't care about security.

BTW, the URL posted above doesn't work.

Hi,

To continue this thread, is it possible for me to be in office and on my work computer, run the Pogoplug client software and access the drive connected to the Pogoplug device on my home network?
I am guessing I can do this using the http://my.pogoplug.com but can I do this using the client software installed ?

Thanks,
DJ
