So what is to stop people ssh'ing into pogoplug remotely? Of course it would depend on the router config. However, with the root password widely available all it takes is to access /tmp/.cemnt and all the user files are available. Again, unlikely but possible.

Would the reason for not being able to change the root password be down to auto updates?

Whats the login name to ssh for the Pogo? Also, I am an SSH novice, but doesn't the port forward on your router need to point port 22 to your Pogoplug to access via SSH over WAN?

I guess BC is right, but the security risk does seem to be there. You'd need to forward port 22 to your PogoPlug. I don't recommend it! Very big risk then!
