Have you contacted pogoplug support? I'm sure they'd like to know about this.
Joe
Has anyone else experienced issues when trying to back up data to a hard drive attached to pogoplug? In particular, I use synbackSE program to backup data from my laptop to 1 hard drive and then from this hard drive to another backup hard drive. All backups fail for one reason or another - access denied, cannot find target file, etc. Also I cannot change file attributes on the folders in these hard drives - make them read-only, hidden due to the same errors.
When I attach these hard drives to my laptop the backups and file attrbutes work just fine. I hope folks at pogoplug can fix this soon since everytime I need to backup I have to remove the hard drives from pogoplug and attach to my laptop.
I do have a problem on my beta Pogoplug changing attributes, but that may because I have a beta box. Is yours a beta box or a production one?
Yes i have contacted support and someone is supposed to be looking into the issues.
Brandon - Yes i'm a beta user but I wasn't aware that the beta unit is different from the production unit, in terms of hardware/functionality? Did someone from Pogoplug confirm this?
malhotra81,
The beta unit hardware should be the same as the production units. Far as the rest goes I will PM you on it.
Regarding SyncBackSE, on my tests I did see the same thing you are getting but changing some configurations may fix that.
Brandon,
What configuration change are you referring to? Let me know and I can try it out...
The reason I asked about the Beta or production unit was because some of the betas do not have ntpd running to get network which may be affecting synbackSE.
There is also a problem with changing file attributes that I hear they are working on. Either one of these may be causing you a problem.
Far as synbackSE goes, just for fun I DL'd the demo program. You are right it does not work on my beta box. I did get it to work one time but that was after I changed a bunch of stuff just for fun and I don't know which one actually made it work. You are going to have to go with trial and error. I was just running an evaluation version and don't plan on keeping it.
I use other ways to do automatic backups that work for me.
Interesting...
I use the free version of SyncbackSE...If you know of a backup program that works with [beta] pogoplug I'd appreaciate it :) I don't mind switching the software I use, as long as it successfully does a complete backup.
malhotra81,
It all depends on your setup. I have used Windows Live Sync and Windows NT Backup or you could create a Windows batch file that does what you want.
I am putting together a info article on using Windows NT Backup for the Pogoplug and it works fine but it compresses all the files you want to back up into one file for you to save just in case you lose the original ones. It does not do an exact file for file copy.
At the end of the day I would recommend you do what you are doing now, wait a month or so and see what changes the Pogoplug team come up with and then decide what to do from there.
