Both the 32 bit and 64 bit Pogoplug drive software downloads are posted on Pogoplug's official site (and in our downloads area.)  I'd love to start putting together a list of distros that the software has been tested with and what works and what doesn't.  Who out there has successfully installed the software on Linux and on what distro?

I can confirm so far that I haven't had any issues I'm aware of under CentOS 5.3 64-bit.  Stil in a testing phase though, should go into full use in a few weeks.

Any one know what would be needed to get Drive in Linux working on EeePc that uses ASUS' oem version of Xandros?

May 11, 2009 2:08 PM

You'll need to get a copy of FUSE on there. I'm not sure if Xandros has a repo you can pull that from. If not you'll have to compile it from source.

http://fuse.sourceforge.net/

I believe that's all you need. As long as that's on there, unpack the downloaded pogoplugfs file (which results in a single executable file), and it should work.

Been using the driver since ~20090411 on Ubuntu 32 8.10 and now 9.04.  Works well, plus a little faster after latest update.  The only problem I've come across so far is after a long period of not using the pogoplug connection the driver or something else dies.  This usually happens when I leave the directory (Nautilus) open overnight and appears as a filesystem or Nautilus file manager unresponsive message, which requires a reboot to be able to use the desktop again.  Works well if I leave something accessing the drive like a P2P client.

EDIT: whoops. wrong thread. disregard this post.

Just wanted to note that I recently converted to x64 on Ubuntu, and have observed no noticable problems, including the problems I've reported on the 32bit version using the latest driver version 1.0.0.6.

Arch Linux 32-bit and 64-bit work with FUSE installed.

January 7, 2010 9:08 PM

I am using Mandriva 2010 64 bit and cannot get the driver to work. I am using my original pogoplug that I purchased in the spring but didn't set up until now due to a move. I have FUSE installed (I believe). I created /mnt/fuse ahead of running pogoplugfs as root. Here is the log entry, any help is appreciated:

It's starting OK for me, and displaying no obvious error messages, but I never see any PogoPlug files, even if I wait patiently for half an hour.

On my PcLinuxOs (Mandriva-derived) system, I stored the driver software at:

/home/[MyUsername]/Pogoplug

and I made a subdirectory beneath that level, named "PogoDrive" to serve as the required mountpoint.

I launch the driver with this pair of command lines:

cd ~/home/[MyUsername]/Pogoplug
/home/[MyUsername]/Pogoplug/pogoplugfs --user [MyEmailAddress] --password [MyPogoPlugPassword] --mountpoint ~/home/]MyUsername]/Pogoplug/PogoDrive

I am forced to do this while logged in as "root", because "/dev/fuse" requires root priveleges.

Here is the resulting status text. Note that no obvious errors are apparent:

After that.... nothing. If I run this in the background, I get a shell prompt, as I expected. I get no indication of trouble, but I get no indication of success either.

When I browse to the directory that I designated as my mountpoint, I see nothing there. None of my "Pogo" files or folders are visible.

Can anybody tell me what this looks like when everything is working? I'm wondering if I'm almost there, of if it's actually working and I just don't know where to look for the shared files.

Regards,

bbosen

Waited an hour. Still no "Pogo" files. I really don't think this is working in spite of the lack of error messages.

Ok, this is a nice tool if it worked, but the command line string used to mount the drive is parsed by bash where my password includes special characters. Don't even think about replying to tell me to change my password. Good code would not allow this parsing.

Judging from what I've seen, this does not pass muster. A GUI tool for this is what is needed, with good quality control so at least a few major distributions are tested thoroughly.

Why not just make .deb files for Debian and Ubuntu, and .rpm files for Redhat, Fedora, Mandriva, and the others. At least the binaries for Debian and Redhat derivations would be nice.

Don't forget to get them submitted into the repositories too.

Thanks,

networkr
