I would like to be able to use the pogoplug without the my.pogoplug service. I would connect to it directly, or install openvpn and configure it to make a remote connection on a schedule. Great for backups! I don't need the my.pogoplug service to do this.

We are adding a LAN discovery service to address this. We hope to have it available soon, and your Pogoplug will upgrade itself when we push it out.

You can already do this using the Pogoplug drive program and your backup tool. Just need to think out of the box a bit.

Could you please explain to me a little bit more about the LAN discovery service you guys are adding? Why would that mean that we won't need the pogoplug service. Would we see any speed increases in file access?
