How does PogoPlug handle video and music streaming from the my PogoPlug personal site? Is it a good solution for this purpose?

Basically what you would do is install the Pogoplug drive program on your computer. Once installed it acts just like any hard drive you have already on that computer.

So any files you can normally stream would work exactly like they would if you copied them to your computer's hard drive itself.

Naturally if you are streaming via WAN you need a fast enough connection for it to work properly.

Yeah, the WAN connection makes a big difference. Even over 3G or wifi on my iPhone, I have a hard time streaming videos. Music is no problem.

Quake97,
How about streaming over WAN to a computer connected to a high speed download. Have you tried that?
With 1,200 up at my pogoplug video streaming is not good with WMP. I have not tried with VLC or anything else yet.

Yeah, I've tried with both a 3 and 5Mbps down connection. Obviously locally its fine. I have a 20/5 FiOS connection at home, so I would think I'm sending out enough. Come to think of it, I haven't tried to do it in a while, so it may have gotten better with the various beta updates recently.

Joe,
After you upgrade to the latest I would like to hear your results. The WAN streaming issue is interesting to me. What programs work, what tweaks are needed etc.

Interestingly enough, when I play my media files through web page, unfortunately one at a time, everything works VERY smooth, with no drops or stutters. If I open up the pogoplug drive through explorer and try to play through ANY media player I get stutters and drops. Any thoughts around this?
