Why did Pogoplug remove the version that exposes only the pogoplug device.

This new version defaults to exposing virtually everything on your computer, and who knows what else, to others on your LAN running the program, but more important, it puts your computer on the pogoplug.com website (even if nothing is shared).

The most annoying thing about this new version is that Pogoplug REMOVED the earlier version.

Suggestion: Keep the Pogoplug device only version around, keep it upated, and put it back on the download area. I'm looking for the Windows 64-bit version of the original software. Where is it?

I realize you're trying to push this new version 3, but it's far too invasive, as though pogoplug is collecting all this information about user networks, not just the pogoplug devices, but the computers being used by people.

I don't want pogoplug.com to have my computers listed on their website, regardless of who cans see the list.

It doesn't expose anyone on your LAN to your computer unless you have shared your login and password with them.

It also doesn't put anything from your computer to pogoplug.com unless you actually turn on a specific file or folder.

It basically does the same as the older version did but now it does it with your knowledge and your ability to select specific folders.

Unless you decide to share your computer, it will still allow you to access your Pogoplug devices without sharing anything.

The default setting is to share the computer on which Pogoplug version 3 is installed. The computer appears on other computers on the same LAN even if the volumes don't appear.

At a minimum, it should default to NO SHARING of any kind, even the name of the computer.

But the bigger question is this: Why isn't the earlier version 2.x available? It works, I still use it and have switched from 2 to 3 and back again, and it allows setting up backups from my computer to a pogoplug device, without going through the website. Far more user comprehensible, in my view.

Having talked to the others about Pogoplug, talking up the benefits, the security issue is always the number one objection, and version 3 simply makes the issue more visible and problematic.

It's not my company or my program, so I don't have much input on the decisions, but as a customer, I see version 3 as a lot more invasive than version 2 was. Perception is reality regarding these black box unexplained technologies.
