Does the Series 4 have an improved processor and/or more ram compared to the previous models? Can we expect to see an increase in performance from this new device (I currently have the pink v2 as well as the Biz)?

And yet, the Pogoplug Drive software still won't work through a proxy server almost two years after the feature was stated to be "on the roadmap".

Yeah seriously guys..is the hardware specs any better in this generation? I have the original pogoplug..and still have yet to see any reason to buy any of these newer products. USB2.0 vs 3.0 does not matter to me if my broadband connection has only 5-10mb/sec upload speeds.

The problem isn't in your devices..its in your software.. half the time it doesn't sync properly.. other times you guys remove features and force us to update.. other times it just plain crashes. Lets work on the basic functionality and stop branching out to the stupid cloud crap.. I dont want you guys to host data for me.. that would defeat the purpose of my pogoplug. And can't we do everything this device says already with our current pogoplugs? we've been able to stream/upload this entire time just using your software "technically"

sorry for being so harsh..but i'm 2 steps away from abandoning pogo..and just going with some other solution even if it costs more.

What's under the hood on this new little guy? Same 'ol hardware with new connectors? Or do we have some extra horse power to transcode and stream video (aka Pogoplug Video, just with less spontaneous combustion)?

This looks promising (especially for the price), just need more details...

JasonOnset said: @Flynn Your comments have scared me away from this product completely, Along with the stuff about the video thingy exploding into flames, it looks like the company and their products simply aren't ready for real-world needs.
Yeah, I'm being honest.. the product was great in the beginning..but they've tossed so many features at it..that it has made it unsuable for me. My family also has one over at their house..and its constantly giving them problems.. I could only fix so many via restarts/pulling the drive putting it back in..before it simply became too much to bother.

It is your SOFTWARE CHANGES that make me not want to upgrade. Things work, then they don't work, then they work a little, then they don't work.

This morning I could access my files remotely, this afternoon NOTHING SHOWS UP!

So unreliable. Get your software updates working before you force them on us.

I won't purchase from you or recommend your product until things work.

I noticed that there is a small recessed "eject" button on the back of the Series 4. IS this button to be pushed in order to safely remove the drives?

December 14, 2011 6:56 PM

My bet it's a faster processor, so they can lose your files faster.

I agree, vote with your wallets. Don't buy their new crap until they fix their old crap!

A person got a e-mail from them that said: "Marvell 88F6192 chip with ARM V5 CPU 800Mhz and 128 ram" you can look up that CPU. To Bad it's not a 2 core like the PogoPlug Pro. I would think people would ask for more RAM then 128! RAM is cheep today why don't they do it to 256 or 512?

Well,,,I'm always complaining and sometimes being mean with my comments, but is because i have faith in this product and i want to see it working just fine. But in the same way I complain, i support. So I'm gonna support them buy this one. (again one for my GF and one for me)....but,,,how to get the offer if I'm in europe??

Sounds like a lot of bad experiences but the only problem i have ever had was a bad patch to the android app. I have been on board since pre-ordering the original pogo (now living with my parents) through V2 (now living with my brother)and then video (now living in storage) and am currently using the software on my HTPC which is always on anyway. If this has more guts or better software that can stream video with less buffering i will be all on it but for now i am sticking with what works.

It be super if they added a slot to put your own RAM in it. To have a SATA port with power so you can hook up a big hard drive not just a lap top type though the SATA port on it. The ARM CPU is only one core when there PogoPlug Pro is a 2 core ARM CPU. I don't know why they down graded the CPU in the series 4.

I hope in a series 5 they put all this stuff in that I posted her. Stay small like it is too and very low on power. It be neat if they let people install there own Linux server on it too.

interesting comments. Seems several have had problems. I have not had a problem at all in the year and a half I have had the plug. I am using the Seagate dock, 3 usb ports. May be I am not using it enough to generate a problem. I put it up originally to get some music and lectures to my wife halfway around the world at the time. I wanted to upgrade to the series 4. I just checked my email and see that i am a day to late for the 50% off. Guess I will not be upgrading. I looked and looked and no where on the net did I find a test between the new faster series 4 and the old unites. I was trying to figure out if there was sufficent reason to upgrade over lusting over the style. I like it. Maybe down the road they will have another sale or maybe the series 5 when it arrives I can pull the trigger quicker and move up. Good reading all the comments here. Helps me learn.
